A few months ago we had a discussion about what this could be. I got pictures this morning when one appeared AGAIN out of no where.

(ive been checking his butt daily - so this thing did not get larger - it just appeared). As far as i know its still there - I tried knocking it off but he didnt want me touching him. I applied DE to it - which seemed to work the last time..

Let me know if you cant see the pics - I attached them.

THANKS!!

Ummm, that's a tick! Or it looks like it to me. And what a bad place to have one! Poor kitty.

I don't think a tick would get that big if it only appeared today but then again it could have been that big to start with? Can you not wrap your kitty in a towel to secure his paws and then have a look? Or maybe just posta closer photo. I am still not sure, I woulr recommend a vets visit. x

They ususally get that big after a couple of days of feeding on the animals blood and I've seen them do it overnight. BUT...they can also drop off of another animal and reattach to a new "host" , which could happen while the kitty was sitting around. They will drop off when they get full, but the chance of them transmitting disease to the cat is much greater. If it is a tick and it's that full of blood, just leave it alone. Trying to remove it will force contaminated blood back into the cat.

I guess it could be a tick that reattached to him...

the last time he had 3 at one time - in the same place (out of no where). I applied DE and was able to knock one off with a stick - one was gone by that night and the other by the next morning (but that one wasnt as large and I believe it was a different color).

Yep, pretty sure that's a tick. It's full of the poor cat's blood.

That cat needs to find a better place to sit down!

Actually, the ticks like to find a spot with minimum hair.

Pami, in the original thread, she mentioned that she was able to just knock the thing off (I know m95 mentioned it again here, but you didn't know that when you posted).

...but with that info (that you could knock it off) I'd have to say - REALLY full tick.

Ruthy - these are feral cats and the problem is she can't handle them.

I don't know if DE works on ticks or not, but if you've got access to food grade DE, I'd go that route.
I'm surprised he can't just pull it off himself - cats are bendy enough they can reach their butts! We always find ticks on their faces and sometimes on their necks - never seen one on their butt. Poor kitty!

He seems to not even know its there.

I just fed them and its still there - while he ate I tried to knock it off and it wasnt so easy this time - i applied more DE....

Ill just have to watch all their butts from now on....

I apply ACV to him especially because he lets me (its supposed to keep ticks off )

How safe would it be to spray his anus either with ACV or DE for prevention since this has happened twice?

thanks....

I don't know what ACV is. Would he let you apply Revolution or Advantage or something???? (If you haven't used it before, it's a liquid you squirt inbetween their shoulder blades - but you do have to touch them to spread the fur so you get it on the skin).

So sorry... apple cider vinegar.

There is no way at this point I could afford that for him. I have 3 pets of my own.

I try to go the all natural route for the ferals (which would be teh DE and ACV)
