Missing Python Slithers Out of Dutch Toilet Bowl

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A pet python missing over the last two months made its reappearance by scaring a Dutch woman when it slithered out of her toilet bowl.

The constrictor snake, which kills its prey by coiling around it and squeezing, had been on the loose for more than two months after breaking out of its terrarium in a town near the port city of Rotterdam, Dutch news agency ANP said on Thursday.

As police and vets came to catch the two-meter long fugitive python, it slid under a bathtub that they had to demolish to capture it.

The snake was returned to its owner, but local residents were unhappy to hear the owner admit that a second pet python, this one almost one-meter long, had also escaped and was still on the loose.

EEEK!!!! I would have had a heart attack. My aunt lived in a very old house years ago, and a rat came up through her toilet and bit her on the butt.

grr.... It's careless reptile owners like that guy that give the rest of us a bad reputation! It's not that hard to snake-proof a tank! It's impossible for my snakes (two ball pythons) to get out of their home; in fact most other people have a hard time figuring out how to open it and get them out!

I am terrified of snakes. If that had been me, the headline would have read: "Woman found dead of heart failure, sitting on toilet. Snake suffocated by huge pile of s***."

When we were living in the States, I took some laundry down the cellar and encountered what looked like a tarantula. My husband didn't believe me - he just figured I was exaggerating the size of the spider. I don't kill spiders, so I looked around very carefully every time I went down there. About a week later, I was standing outside talking to a neighbor, and told her about the huge spider in the basement. Her reaction was, "Great! You've found Steve's tarantula!" Her son was lucky - what if I'd panicked and smashed it? People with exotic pets should at least warn the neighbors if the pets get loose.
