My male cat pee's everywhere!

Thread Starter
about 8 months ago or around there, i seen a cat in the street and i got it and took it home because its brother was found dead in the street also. It was fine but very scared when we got it, then it started going around us all the time.

After it grown up some, it started peeing everywhere. Such as. My Bed (mostly), Covers on my bed or just covers laying around, hard wood floor near the shoes, and recently my computer chair.

This morning he pee'd for the first time after getting (Fixed) on my computer chair. I woke up and saw it.

We tried to punish it many times but it does not help!, Any help please?

Punishing a cat for peeing will not do any good a cat will not understand why you are punishing him.

The first thing to do is to take him to the vet, and have the vet take a urine sample to check for urinary tract infections.

If you just got him neutered, it will take some time for the hormones, and the desire to mark, to leave his body.

You must clean all soiled areas with an enzyme cleaner to remove the smell, even if you can't smell it he can, and enzyme cleaner will break down all the bacteria and eliminate the odor.

Be sure his litter box is kept clean, and you use a litter that has no fragrances or perfumes in it. Keep at least two litter boxes.

Hurray for you for rescuing this poor boy whom noone wanted. What's his name? Please keep us posted.

Oh, one more thing, Feliway plug in diffusers can help with scent/territorial markings, so you may want to get a few of those.

But I still recommend a trip to the vet, first.

Everything the above poster said.

Your kitty could certainly have a medical problem. Please don't punish him, he does not have the ability to understand what he has done wrong. All he knows is that the person he loves has hurt him.

Everything said above - vet visit first (and clean with enzyme cleaners while you wait to get in). My boy had box issues - looking back, I think it was stress and then eventual struvite crystals.

Believe me, I know it's hard to not feel irritation/anger/confusion and just wanting it to stop. Try to be as calm and positive as possible. I swear to you your boy is not doing it to be 'bad' - he's trying to tell you something is wrong, and the hard part for us is to figure it out. I can tell you he's picking up on your stress and he knows something is wrong - which is probably increasing his stress level even more. My boy always did. Don't punish him - cats do better with positive reinforcement - and I sincerely think he's just trying to tell you something is wrong with him, either physically or with the boxes themselves, and he doesn't know how else to get his point across.

You're a hero for taking this boy in, and for working to find out what's wrong.

What kind of boxes are you using? What sort of litter? From my experience, I always recommend people try Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter - around me, PetSmart carries it. I also suggest open boxes (several, and cleaned twice daily).

Please keep checking it with us - you're not alone in dealing with litter box aversion. I can tell you that, while it took a while, my boy is darn good now with the box - and I do remember being in tears over the situation when it seemed we'd never find the answer.

Sounds to me like this boy is not neutered. As a former breeder I can vouch for this. Most male cats will urinate all over the place if they are intact and over a year or so old. Do not punish the little guy, whatever the cause of this it is not only not his fault, but he won't understand the connexion between his peeing and the punishment and will only learn to fear you.
