Hi Everyone!
I'm new to the site, but have been a long time lurker (through my boyfriend lol) and I know how wonderful you all are, so I need your help/support!

I was contacted through a mutual friend, that her room mate is putting his 8 year old kitty for adoption. They have tried to contact local shelters, but DO NOT want to place her in one, for fear that she will be put to sleep, and make her behavior worse

The P.S. version: Another cat was introduced into the home which consists of 5 room mates in total, and Paris' anxiety went through the roof. She does not get along well with the other kitty (female), and is having major anxiety due to the heavy traffic in the home. He has tried everything to make the environment more comfortable, but nothing has worked
So he is looking for a new quiet and relaxed home for her, preferably with no other animals.

I was going to take her in, she is absolutely BEAUTIFUL
However, I live with my mother (temporarily) and she's against having ANY animals in the home
So I've agreed to try and find her a new home too.

Below are some pictures of Paris. She is up to date with all her shots, is spayed, and declawed. Paris is located in New Jersey. Also, the adoption would be 100% FREE. If anyone is seriously interested in adopting this gorgeous kitty, please PM me so we can make arrangements. Please, please, get the word around CS Family!! I would hate it if this amazing little girl was sent to a shelter!!

Thank you in advance for all your help!! You guys are great!!

Why doesn't the owner find a new home for himself and his cat instead of dumping the cat? When you get a cat you make a commitment to her and you have to keep it even when it's not the most convenient. This is really not a situation where the cat should have to be rehomed.

If the owner refuses to take his responsiblity towards the cat though please be proactive in the search for a new home for her. It is possible to place a cat if you work for it and use your imagination. Unfortunately too many people try one thing and if that doesn't work they give up and the poor cat goes to the shelter. The Cat Site is a good start but since most people here already have several cats and few are looking for another one you will have to go beyond asking here.

Start by writing up a cute, descriptive ad about Paris, her personality, her situation and what she needs. Make her stand out. Remember that she's competing with thousands of other cats in New Jersey that also need a home as much or more than she does. Take several cute pictures that shows her personality. Then post the ad in as many places as possible. Go to local pet related sites, Craigslist, other free ad sites, Petfinder classifieds, and anything else you can find. Also put a small ad in the paper and make up cute, eye catching flyers and hang them in pet stores, vet offices, libraries, grocery stores and any other places where people can see them.
When someone contacts you about Paris it's super important to screen the person. Ask questions about their pet experience. Do they have any pets? Have they had any in the past? If so, what happened to them? Have they ever given up a pet? Etc.
Always visit the home of the person before you place the cat there. It's a great opportunity to get a feeling for who they are and a way to verify that they are who they say they are. Not every person that wants to adopt a cat would actually provide a good, FOREVER home.
There is a lot of good info online about finding and screening homes for pets. I'd recommend that you do your homework. Here are some tips from the HSUS http://www.humanesociety.org/animals..._pet_home.html
Great tips from Best Friends http://www.bestfriends.org/nomorehom...mesforpets.pdf

Finding a home for an 8-year old cat will not be easy but if you are proactive and use your imagination you'll find one.

Good luck and thanks for caring about Paris.

You're absolutely right. Believe me, I feel the same way. I had a cat when I was 4 years old until I was 22 and I couldn't imagine the thought of giving him away so easily. It's a shame that she's being "dumped" like that, it's completely unfair to her. She didn't ask for this home, it was provided to her, but it would be equally devastating if she ended up in a shelter. So I'm doing my part to try to help. I saw her pictures, and instantly fell in love with her. It's too bad I'm living back at home, otherwise she'd be my little princess
And it breaks my heart to hear that she's being put up for adoption....

And thank you for all your ideas
They are things I never thought of, so I'm def going to try some of those, and hopefully it will help!

Hi, I am sorry I cannot help as I am in England, it is so sad, my cat Fudge has huge anxiety problems and we have considered this whenever we have taken on another cat and Fudge is my main priority. I would certainly never get rid of her though no matter how bad she got. I wish you all the luck in the world to find this beautiful girl a new home, she is beautiful but it seems like she would be better with one person that has no other animals. please keep us updated. Its a shame you can't get round your mum, couldn't you bribe her

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
In the meantime, is there any reason Paris cannot be confined to "her person's" room???? Can she not be given some peace and privacy - and a safe feeling space - with the close of a door? He can put her food, litter box and water in there, put shelves up on the wall for her to climb or provide cat trees and/or condos, give her some quiet places to hide out/hang out, purchase a Feliway diffuser and plug it in - or buy the spray and use it, buy Bach's Rescue Remedy (for pets) to add a few drops to her water - buy some harp music and leave it playing for her when no one's in the room..... I mean - it's better than a cage!!!!!

Poor kitty.

for her. We have a stray we're trying to rehome right now (in NJ) ourselves.
