I have a 14yo DSH Spayed that is acting odd after her FVRCP booster. She had a complete booster series about 6 years ago and almost died from severe reactions, required a week of hospitalization. Ever since then, I haven't kept up with my boosters for any of my house cats. It scared me off of boosters.

I am fostering a litter of 4/5 week old kittens and this experience prompted me to get my house cats boostered. I have delveloped a good relationship with a new, very cautious vet and I trust him. He pre-medicated all four of my house cats with a steroid before administring the FVRCP booster. He felt that this was the only booster that they needed since they all had their kitten shots and are 100% indoors.

The "overly-sensitive" female is acting very odd. The day of the booster, she was fine, very happy, energetic and social (probably because of the steroid shot). Day 2 she started to withdrawl and today, she's lethargic and is hiding in odd spots. She's eating and going to the bathroom, but she's not herself.

I did notice fleas on my cats last night (for the very first time ever). I assume the kittens brought them in. I have the kittens quarantined and am taking lots of precautions as suggested by forum members and my vet.

I just administered Advantage to all of my house cats.

Could the fleas or vaccine cause the behavior change? Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

It could be both, but I know that my cats are often lethargic the day after their shots. I'd call the vet and tell him what's going on and see what he says, esp. since your kitty is so sensitive to the vaccine. It could also be coupled with the stress of having the new kittens in the house that is making her act wonky.

Considering her past history and age, I wouldn't call the vet to tell them what's going on - I'd call them to tell them I'd be bringing her in.

My recommendation is to get her in to see the vet today. Better to be prepared and get this done during business hours than it is to need a vet at 10pm tonight.
