Linda,
I'm just catching up on this thread and I'm so sorry (also so glad it was caught early). You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I saw the doctor today. My surgery is scheduled for July 7, 2010 at 9 am.

I could have gotten in on June 9, 2010, but the surgeon was a doctor that scares me to death and when I worked at my other job I saw him in action with patients on the ward, and I can't say that I remember seeing any patients happy with his level of care. How he is as a surgeon, I don't know. But he's older and retiring soon, but will still be working part-time in the clinics, so I wasn't prepared to put my life in his hands.

The doctor that I really wanted is about to go on maternity leave and she won't be back until October, and I don't want to wait that long, nor does my gynecologist want me to wait.

I'm happy with my choice of surgeons in the end. He's really nice, and he is a very good surgeon.

I'm putting my request in for 6 weeks leave, and I'm cancelling my 1 week of unpaid vacation at the end of this month, that I was really looking forward to taking. But I need to squirrel away some money because the 6 weeks I am off sick, are completely unpaid days.

You absolutely have to be 100% happy with your surgeon. It makes all the difference in the world. It helps keep you focused on helping yourself heal without bad vibes getting in your way.

Boy does it ever. I ignored my misgivings about a surgeon once, much to my regret. I'll be thinking of you. Do you have someone to help you afterward, and someone to take care of your kitties while you are in the hospital?

Sending for a speedy recovery. July seems like a long way off but time will fly.

Having confidence in your surgeon is a good thing.

Having paid medical leave is a better thing. Hoping things will work out.

My brother will likely watch them again. Either that or I'll have my nephew stay here. He and his girl friend broke up so he is now living alone.

Unfortunately my leave is unpaid. I can apply for unemployment sick leave but that is only 40% of my income and I likely wouldn't get anything from them until weeks after I return to work.

Even so, apply for your unemployment sick leave. You will be very glad of those checks, no matter how small, when they come. It's a lot to deal with, but you have time to get everything sorted out before July.
