I know, I read a couple of other articles and they all said the shelter manager was fired because protocol was not followed - but yet they are still doing low cost speuters in the same building

The first time I encountered ringworm in a shelter I was also suprised to learn that euthanasia was their solution. After all I had gotten ringworm myself when I was a groomer and it was easily cured.

As I learned more I found that the problem with ringworm in a shelter environment is that the fungus spores are so small they become airborn and even HVAC filters cannot stop them. All animals can get it so can the humans. With a heavily coated animal it is hard to tell they have ringworm until it is very severe. It gets in the carpet, in the vents, everywhere. The spores are harder to kill than parvo in the environment.

In an ideal world, while they are giving an in-take exam they would check each and every incoming animal with Woods Light.

You can bet that this is a painful experience for them as well and lets us all hope they can learn from and never repeat it.

They received orders to stop euthanizing the animals...they had already put 95 of them to sleep. I'm not sure what they are going to do, but at least they are not all going to die.

I read that piece of news in yesterday's newspaper.

I can't believe this is happening. I volunteered at this humane society back when I was in High School and I also adopted my kittens there a year ago. How could they have let this happen? I just still can't understand it. I even remember going there back in Sept and looking at there cats. Which they had too many of. I had never seen so many cats before... This is heartbreaking and I can't picture all those cats that I saw being put down. They were so sweat and friendly. I just can't grasp this...it's like being in a horror movie. 350 animals?

Yes, I saw that on the news last night. Sad that it happened at all.

from the article dated May 11 (day after the original announcement)

Jason Francis, a construction worker in Keswick, said he was shocked to find out that a cat he had dropped off at the shelter several months ago was still there, and might be euthanized. He had received the cat as a Christmas present, but when his nine-year-old daughter showed signs of being allergic to the pet, he reluctantly took it to the OSPCA for adoption.

He was upset that the cat might be killed when he thought it would be in a new home by now. “I think it is crazy to do that,†he said. “It is a mass murder.â€

Mr. Francis said he thought ringworm was treatable, and canâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t believe the OSPCA wonâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t go to the effort to try to stop the infection without killing the animals. “It seems to me they are going the cheaper route. … I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t understand how it got to this.â€
Mr Francis has no right to complain, being one of those common pet dumpers himself. He was shocked that the cat was still there? where did he think the cat would go, in a shelter already obviously over burdened? People make me sick.
