I'm currently taking a class called career exploration seminar (it's required as three of my seven co-op credit hours) and I have to do an informational interview with a historian. I have to ask a minimum of 15 questions about how the person found themselves working in the position they are in, what he/she did to get there/ how he/she feels about the field and where they see it in the future as far as a job market is concerned, advice on pursuing a career as a historian, etc..

Has anyone done anything like this before? I'm going to work on my list of questions over the tonight and tomorrow, but I would like to hear any suggestion or experiences anyone has had with doing something like this.

Thanks.

I've had a class (an introduction to my major as a freshman) where a lot of the professors in the department came in and talked about how they got into it and their advice for us.
Some of them seemed nervous though, surprisingly. And the professor for the class said that it's easy for professors to give a lecture but when it comes to their own life it can be difficult...
So, try to see how much they're willing to share and make them comfortable

No suggestions. But I would suggest that you interview a Museum Curator. When I was in nursing school, my clinical group had to do a presentation on the history of nursing. I went to the museum to see if I could find anything in their microfiche archives and had the huge pleasure of speaking with the Museum Curator who allowed me access to their storage VAULTS!!!
I was in history heaven!!! Probably the most fascinating and cherished experience of my entire life!
