That sounds sexist unfortunately but it's true.
No...it's about an older lady who is bored with retirement and volunteers with the CIA. Crazy. The earlier books are better than the newer ones but they're all good.

Gallico wrote for a long time. I've heard several times a radio play he wrote called "The Christmas Goat." Very funny.

Of course, Thomasina, and The Poseidon Adventure, and many others.

First of all, I'm a voracious reader, so it's really hard to narrow it down to my top 100 favorite books.

1. What is your favorite book of all time?
The Robe by Lloyd C. Douglas. My mother gave me the book for my birthday when I was in high school I think. I've read it enough times that I practically have it memorized.
A Tale of Two Cities and almost everything else by Charles Dickens.
Rebecca and Jamaica Inn by Daphne DuMaurier.

2. What is your favorite book that you've read purely for entertainment?
Again, I can't stick with just one book. The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, and anything by Nora Roberts, but especially the series she's written as J. D. Robb.

3. What is your favorite genre?
In no particular order: Fantasy/SciFi (but not horror or vampire stories), espionage, romance, mystery. . . ummm, have I missed any?

4. What is your favorite children's book?
When I was in second grade my favorite book was Danny and the Dinosaur by Syd Hoff. When I was a little older I enjoyed the Poppy Ott series by Leo Edwards. They were written in the 1920's and 30's but a family friend gave us the entire series. I think my sister still has them.

I'm glad to see somebody else remembers Booth Tarkington. I read a number of his books when I was in 5th or 6th grade. None of my friends now have ever heard of him.

Used book stores, thrift stores, and garage sales. I see her books quite often. It's a good way for anyone to build up their book collection and only spend .10 - $1 a book.

For those saying the Harry Potter series, I wonder if they've read Gaiman's Book of Magic series or any T. H. White?

I haven't listed my favorite kid books. Harriet The Spy and the two companion books to it. And Katie John's books! Remember Katie John?

And all of the Ramona the Pest books and all Beverly Cleary's other books too, Ellen Tibbets, Mitch and Amy, and so on.

The Little House books are favorite re reads of mine also, as are the Anne of Green Gables books, and The Emily books by the same author (EL Montgomery)

Another old time favorite author of mine is Jean Webster, author of "Daddy Long Legs".

Ah well I could fill pages.

1. Favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird I learn something new every time I read it and I've read it once a year for about the last five years. I make it a point to revisit it at least yearly.

2. Favorite non-lit books are the Amelia Peabody series and the Stephanie Plum series. The Peabody books are set in Egypt at the turn of the century when archaeology was really taking off in the area. I find that interesting but the characters are rich and there's always a mystery which is my favorite genre. Stephanie Plum is funny and fast paced. I think Janet Evanovich may be following me for story ideas.

3 Favorite genre is mystery but I like a good fantasy, too. For good fantasy (and there's so much bad) check out George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. Simply brilliant!

4. Favorite kids books: Where the Red Fern Grows and Watership Down

I wouldn't call Watership Down a kids book!

Oh yeah me too, I love that. There are other companion books to them, but I haven't ever read them, have you?

I just finished the last book in the Twilight Series and was so sad that I had finished it. Now my daughter and my oldest grandaughter can discuss it. I was completely taken with it and I don't usually read about vampires and or werewolves. I like Nora Roberts, Nicolas Sparks, Jodie Picoult and Debbie McComber?sp. I used to read Kathleen Woodwiess novels but it takes her forever to put out her books. I started liking murder mysterys and just finished one by the author whos books are the basis for the Murdoch Mysterys TV show that is about the Toronto Police in the late 1800s.
My favourite childrens book is the Velveteen Rabbit.
I always loved Jane Austen books too.

What a wonderful topic!
There are so many. I love books for children and young adults, and will read almost any genre. I don't like romance novels. I read a lot of horror, but none those books made my list. These are some of my favorites in no particular order.

Children and/or YA:
The Wump World
In the Night Kitchen (Maurice Sendak!)
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH
Secrets of the Shopping Mall
Incarceron

Adult:
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series
The Linnet Bird
Wuthering Heights
The Perfect Storm
White Oleander
A Christmas Carol

It's a series of children's books called "Emil i Lönneberga", the author is Astrid Lindgren.
I know the books, we even had a tv-show about Emil. It was very popular over here, and in finnish it's called Vaahteramäen Eemeli. Pippi Longstockings (in finnish Peppi Pitkätossu) was even more popular but I always hated it/her..

1. My favourite book is Bram Stoker's Dracula. Can't explain, it's just amazing. Lord of the Rings is of course another favourite.

2. There is a shorter novel version of the Dracula book, it's more like the movie from -92. I liked it a lot, almost as much as the original long version. Also many books from Anne Rice are great.

3. My favourite genres are horror and fantasy.

4. Favourite childrens books are 'The Little Vampire'-series from a german author called Angela Sommer-Bodenburg. I bought them all, 18 books so far.
I was a huge fan of the tv-shows too when I was a kid.

1. What is your favorite book of all time?

Don't have one, though if I go solely by the number of times I've read any given book, it would be Michael Crichton's The Lost World by a landslide. I know entire passages of the book by heart.

2. What if your favorite book that you've read purely for entertainment..I know some of us admire great literature works and would say one of those is a "favorite" but it's not a light read, and there is always the junk novels with no literary value which can be very enjoyable..so I am asking this question for those who have a literary masterpiece book as their favorite, just to get a sense of which easy read type of book they like also. This could be a book you've read among the many that really stood out to you even though you wouldn't put it in the same level as your favorite.

Michael Crichton, again. Pretty much anything he wrote, with a couple of exceptions. Hated Sphere and Disclosure, never finished either of them. Read most of his other works multiple times.

3. What is your favorite genre??

Fantasy. I've been branching out more lately though. Honestly I'll read pretty much anything that sounds interesting. I've been venturing into nonfiction in particular lately.

4. What is your favorite children's book?

Don't really have one...the only children's series I really remember reading was Animorphs and The Babysitters' Club. Aside from those I read mostly adult novels at that age. I've since read a few that would have been favorites if I had read them as a child, but I don't really count those.

My favorite book of all time is "The Lord of the Rings". I know for sure I have read it a dozen times.

For entertainment purposes I can't pick one book, but I enjoy the Jack Ryan series of books by Tom Clancy.

Favorite genres are history and fiction (including science and fantasy).

Children's book: "The Hobbit"
