We just bought a new hand tufted woolen rug and those little fur balls of ours have been yanking thread out left right and centre!!

The cat tree is right by the carpet...

WHAT DO WE DO?????
We're going nuts trying to stop them!!!

I should also add...that they aren't so much scratching as they are sort of tugging the wool out!!

Not a lot of it, it's alomst as if
they are just sort of stretching and their nails get snagged and then after they realise their nails are snagged they start pulling and then carpet comes up!!

And i just bought them a horizontal scratch pad, and left it in the middle of the carpet... Of course they're ignoring it! They even have a log...

*sigh...

I don't know how big your rug is . So have you try to move the rug in a different area for a while ? And later on move it more to the place you want the rug .You also can place som Catnip on the scratcher to atract your cats

It is quite possibly the smell of the wool that is attracting them. Buy a can of lemon scented air fresherner and lightly mist down the carpet. It won't hurt the carpet and it will keep the kittens off of it. I would also move it so it is not near any of their equipment.

Lemon scented...

We'll have to try this...
I read about it in one of the very important threads on scratching problems but wasn't sure if i should try... Because we don't mind them being ON the rug, we just don't want them scratching it.
