What do you call it when...?

What do you call it when one of the world's "leading" Homophobic conservative religious activists goes on a fully subsidized (paid for with his homophobic follower's money) trip to promote his anti-gay agenda, yet uses part of that money to hire a gay prostitute to "carry his bags" (that he was photographed moving around himself) and supply "sexual massages".

The number of influential conservative homophobes outing themselves is lending a whole lot of credibility to the "gay haters are just hating themselves for being gay" ideology.

I can't link the stories, because all of them seem to allow comments, and the comments are quite "lively"

Just Google Reverend George Rekers, it's quite funny.

If he'd just quit being a jerk, AfterElton would probably throw him a coming out party, and welcome him as yet another deeply religious member of the club.

Hypocrisy thy name is..........

I'd call it hypocrisy. And I certainly hope his followers realize that, too.

But I don't think you'd have to scratch much of anybody too deep to find something they're hypocritical about. It seems to be a constant in human psychology.

Generally if someone is THAT much against something, they're overcompensating.

I would call him a unchristian-like hypocritical bigot.

Exactly! Reminds me of that old adage about he who doth protest too much.

If I may use this word here, I would consider that to be one of the many and varied forms of "dumbassery."

I learned that a long time ago. We had a dean at college that harped on one problem every time he spoke, and I just kind of came to assume that was his personal problem.

On another forum I frequent, one of the members is just a freak about "inappropriate" content. If someone posts a picture that happens to have a woman in it wearing less than puritan coverings, and he just comes unglued with messages to the administrators, etc. I think I know something about him...

Does anyone else look at this as the guy basically using deception to steal his supporter's money, or am I reading too much into it?

After all, they unknowingly not only paid for the little tryst, it looks as though they may have paid for his "entertainment" as well.

This is the way all people in power work. Look at Barney Frank. Look at Bill Clinton. Look at the Republican congressman and senator who got caught in such trysts. Look at any politician, left or right, who gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar. The use money to get power, then they use that power to get whatever else they want. It's the nature of people, and if we aren't vigilant, they'll do it to us every time.

This is why I say our democracy is healthiest when those in power learn early on that they can be voted out of power. And, when it comes to a church, when they learn their followers will leave them if they mess up.
