I just stumbled across this forum...I keep finding little nooks and crannies of TCS that I didn't know existed!
Since I often refer to the 3 dogs with whom Sophie, Jack and I share the house, thought I'd introduce them.
This is Miss Cassidy, my 13 and a half year old yellow Lab. She was actually a (slightly belated) 16th birthday gift from my mother and grandmother - I'm 29 now, so she's been with me a long time.
She has a lot of health issues - diabetes, terrible arthritis, blindness, deafness - but she's still hanging with us for now, and we're treasuring the time we have left with her.
Next, we have Madison [Maddie], one of my mother's dogs. This is our "problem child" when it comes to the cats. She is a 5-year-old Husky/Sheltie mix, and extremely skittish. She has never made an aggressive move towards the kitties, but she is utterly terrified of them (despite the OBVIOUS size difference!), so any interactions with them are closely supervised.
Finally, we have Nika. Technically, she belongs to my mother - but in reality, the entire household belongs to HER. Nika is a 7-year-old Malamute/Collie mix, and she is roughly 100 lbs of love, adoration, and total bossiness. Her nickname is "Nanny Nika," for her tendency to completely direct the lives of the other 2 dogs. She is also very vocal, and will "sing" in classic Malamute fashion, on command (and NOT on command, unfortunately for us
). Jack warmed up to her fairly quickly, although he still doesn't approve of her "hovering" and will hiss occasionally - I think he's the only one in the house she listens to! Sophie-Ann absolutely adores her. Watching my little 9-lb cat fly down the stairs in the morning to nuzzle up against the chest of this gentle giant brings tears to my eyes nearly every time. Oh, and for the record, the second photo shows that "big tough girl" hiding in the basement shower during a thunderstorm.
