I just posted within the last day or two about the guinea pig I adopted. I had been waiting to adopt a pig for almost a year and had finally received a call from one of the local shelters stating that they had one available. I met her and it was love at first sight. I thought, well the rest is history. But, history does tend to repeat itself, doesn't it
?!
I got a call this morning from the shelter where I got my little girl from. She had been fostered by a woman for a bit, but had proven not to be comfortable with other guinea pigs and was thus adopted out as a single pig. But, I guess, in the last day or two, one of the guinea pigs has become upset by the loss of her "friend." She stopped eating and drinking and would wheek and cry non-stop. And, so, even though she was being fostered by another agency, I went to pick her up this afternoon.
For now, they're in separate cages across the room from one another. I'm not comfortable putting them together despite their just being separated, but they need to be near enough to one another to know that they're not alone. I've syringed water in the new little girl's mouth, but she's already taken to drinking from her water bottle -- she did so after hearing her "friend" wheek. I'm thrilled to have been given the opportunity to take a second pig on since they are social animals, but I didn't expect it to happen this quickly. C'est la vie, I suppose.
So, now to tell you about my new baby. Well, she is a she
and is about 6 months old. She is also an Abyssinian, but is a brindle. She's super cute and has a much more boisterous personality. But, even in the few short hours she's been home with me, she has brought out more of my other girl's personality. She is very sweet and is absolutely adorable. And, believe me when I say that they make the cutest pair ever! Now they just need names...
Anyway, I just wanted to share my good news. I've had a couple of busy days since coming home from Albuquerque, NM -- and I wouldn't have it any other way!
