I just walked into the kitchen, and found Zeno standing with his front two feet ankle deep in his water bowl. He just gave the "o hai" look. Sigh...

Cats have a lot of problem telling where the top of the water is - which is why some will stick a toe in or even their whole foot to figure it out. Moving water is easier, which is why many cats like the fountains. Of course, there's also goofy kitties that just enjoy playing in their water no matter what.

No playing, no just checking it out. He was just standing in it, which he did for several minutes until I pulled it to clean it.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
And to think I thought Herc was weird because he smacks the bejeepers out of the water bowl before he drinks out of it. I guess its soon time to restart my campaign for a water fountain....BF is still holding out that its not a needed expense..

I bet he was saying, "You wouldn't buy me my own swimming pool, so I had to make my own!"

I had a water fountain (several actually) and the thing was the biggest pain the rear to clean (and it needs constant cleaning). Now I use a pot, it's a lot easier to clean and fill every day or so...

Ootay
always did that too. Both front paws. Splashsplashsplashsplash! Then she would drink the water from her paws and the floor.

Mazy pulls the water bowl a few inches before she drinks.

Tolly paws the floor around the bowl before he drinks.

Jennie has so much water added to her food she doesn't drink, but when she did (before going to an all canned diet) she seemed fairly "normal" about it.

Newt is forever putting her toys in the water bowl. I think it's so she remembers where she left them.
Thing is she usually drinks from the kitchen tap and it's Ripley who is left trying to work out how to get a drink out of a bowl of water with toy mice floating in it!

Attitude throws bowls of water everywhere dumping them so the only way to make sure both she and Nuts get water and for me to not slip and fall and kill myself is to use the fountain.

Sophie does the same thing, only she goes one step further than toys...

I keep the cats' food and water in my bedroom, so the dogs don't get into it...it's a few feet from my bed. Every night, I pull off my socks before crawling under the covers, and drop them on the floor.

Nearly every morning, I find at least one of those dirty socks lying neatly across the top of the water bowl like a lid.

It's so funny the way cats will do the strangest things and then look at you like "What? Doesn't everyone do this?"

Wish I could get Iris to do that. She gets her paws filthy from digging for moles.
