Ah... my boy Tex is the puker in the family.

I try my very best to help him control it - he eats too fast or too much -or both - and bam - his breakfast is on the carpet ... .or the garage floor... or the kitchen floor.... you get the idea.

Well - I wasn't careful enough this morning I guess. I have chairs pushed up to the picture windows so the cats can perch there and watch the world go by - especially the birds at the feeders.

When I came downstairs after completing some chores up there... well.. there was BARF all over the open window track, sill and screen. Nice aim there, Tex. Well, at least he didn't get my freshly cleaned carpet. Yet.

Have a
er myself. Minutes ago my San just had his afternoon snack and then decided the stairs was a good place to "cough it up".

Attitude walking up the hall puking, gee thanks, make the cleanup job 1000 times harder. Thankfully she doesn't spew much.

Have you tried the suggestions I have seen here before, like elevating his food bowl.... and I believe I remember one where they put larger rocks or pebbles around the food, so they would be forced to go around the pebbles for the food, slowing the eating process.

Yup. Food bowls elevated. He has a "speed bump" bowl, too. I just wasn't paying attention and he cleaned everyone else's plate... and whammo - If I am vigilant with him, the wet food stays down. Elevating the dry bowls helped with the puking of undigested dry.

In other words, he has no "off" switch. He will eat and eat... until it comes back up.

He didn't like bringing up his brekkie .... he was hiding in the basement when I called him he came up and looked at me like - I'm sorry Mommy! HE doesn't like the puking either. I wasn't angry; It's my fault. I just scooped him up and cuddled him and told him it was ok.

Aww... poor Tex. I know what it's like, my Genever is a puker too and I'm not sure why (neither is the vet). She doesn't seem to eat too much too fast.. who knows. But yeah, a lot of times afterwards she will scratch around it as if to bury it, and I feel like I have to say "No no, it's ok baby, I'll clean it up... " sigh..

So since we're on the subject of grossness... haha.. I did something this morning what only a true mom could do (even if only a furkid mom): I caught Genever doing the hacking/about to puke thing, so I went up to her, and put my hands under her face and CAUGHT HER PUKE IN MY HANDS so I didn't have to clean it off the carpet.
Then I dumped it in the toilet and flushed.. I've caught puke with a paper or a towel before, but never my bare hands...

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
OMG you are a trooper!!!!!!! Me personally I could NEVER do that without yaking myself. Id rather grab some paper towels clean it off the floor then bust out the mini shampooer and get the rest. But then again Im also the one who chased my tinsle eater around the house pulling a piece of poopy tinsle off his tooshie......Needless to say my christmas tree has had all the leftover tinsle from the 'pre-kitty' yrs vacumned off it.

Poor baby. Much likes to get up on the window sill and puke over the side. Cleaning up the wall is one of my least favorite things to do.

I also have a throw up cat. I've come to the conclusion that some cats just throw up a lot. Thank goodness for hardwood floors. (And thank goodness that out of four cats, only one throws up on a routine basis.)

Once, Speck got very sick and we took him to the Emergency Vet. He almost never throws up...he has to be really sick for that. They gave him a shot to help stop the nausea and vomiting, but he was still looking green (figuratively). I wanted to hold him because he was scared, and he kept gagging. I was so worried I was about to cry and saying soothing things, like "it's okay, baby"...and I was thinking please don't throw up in my hair, please don't throw up in my hair.

I have scarf and barfers too. That's why I schedule feed five or six small meals a day. Unless there's a hair ball lurking anyway (which might cause the odd meal to come up along with it), this controls the problem pretty well.

That's one thing you can always be sure with, when you have cats. They love to puke!

That's why..when I have my own house, there will be no carpet. Washable floors and washable rugs only.

You are a very brave lady!

I have not caught cat vomit or regurgitation in my hands, though I would, because like you I do try to catch it, whenever possible, I keep a stack of newspapers in the corner just for that!

However I work with special needs kids and I have caught vomit in my hands a few times.

Awww...that's a sweet story, and I know just how you feel. I am the Dreaded Cat Food Police too, and if Mazy ends up having a chance to gobble someone elses leavings and brings it all back up, it's my fault for not watching, they are just being theirownselfs.

By the way..that part in your post I bolded. My mother has a cat like that too, Mikey. There is a name for it, if I can find the scrap of paper where I wrote it down I will tell you it. They are lacking a certain hormone that tells them when they have had enough

Wait....it's on the tip of my tongue...Prater-Willie Syndrome I think it's called. It was named that for people first, but now they are thinking some cats have this, too.

Let me just see.....

It's called Prader-Willi Syndrome. I found only one reference to it in cats, a yahoo Q from 9 months ago, but I'm pretty sure Feline Prader Willi has been discussed or researched somewhere. I'll keep looking-and rather than high jack this thread any further, start a thread on it

This syndrome rings a bell. At first I thought it was because he was a stray and didn't know where his next meal is coming from. But it's been nearly a year and he still does this....

The cat I grew up with did that to me all the time. My favorite though (since Sheba and I shared a room) was when she would throw up on my bed while I was still there. Just to let me know who was boss, of course.

What was worse though was my grandparents' poodle that kept pooping right where I would set my feet as I'd get out of bed almost every morning. You would think I would have learned...
