I don't really have suggestions, but my nephew suffered from that as a baby (now he's 1) and it made his parents zombies because of the crying
I don't really remember how it got better, but I do remember that they just held him most of the time and I guess that got things moving and made him pass gas quicker which alleviated it...

Take a warm shower with the baby. The steam helps. Put the baby on the dryer in an infant carrier and turn it on. Go into the kitchen and have a glass of wine until the cycle finishes.

Take a walk with the baby in a snuggly and and you with an iPod.

The glass of wine part sounds fabulous!!!!!!!

I am thinking of just getting a Moby wrap and wearing her when she gets like that. Not like anything else we do works anyway. Then I could try going for a walk with her!!

Oh my gosh, have I been there. Fifteen years ago I got the little girl I had dreamed of my entire life (someone has to read those Nancy Drew & Trixie Belden books I saved), but there was just one problem. She screamed even BEFORE she was born. I kid you not, only her head was delivered, and she was screaming. Wish I had a video of it. Well, maybe not.

Anyway, no one wanted to touch her. Not her father. Not my mother! She was that hard to handle. I breast fed, and probably didn't help the situation with what I ate. Butt patting and walk/jiggling her helped. Car rides were pure hell. She'd scream for the entire ride, ten minutes or two hours. We used the Milicon drops, but to no avail.

Then Christmas 1995 arrived. She was a very early walker, and at nine months was toddling around some. Almost overnight she changed into a pleasant (mostly, but then she is a teenager now) human being, that one could enjoy having around. She was mobile, and I'm guessing that is what did the trick. She was able to move around more on her own and it just helped. Finally, I had that baby girl I'd dreamed of.

Due to that nine months of being the only one who could handle her, she bonded more with me than anyone, including her dad. And she did grow up and read my books.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, this too shall pass, although I know it seems like quite the opposite.

I wish you the best of luck with your little precious one. My daughter would kill me for saying this - to this day she can get pretty gassy. But the high-pitched wailing no longer accompanies it.

I've heard that the Moby wraps are lifesavers to moms with babies w/ colic! You can actually make one yourself & save lots of money too
If you just google it, it's about $30 cheaper to make your own!

I hope this passes quickly for you. Luckily, Landon never had colic - I can only imagine what you're going through!

The only other thing I think I was told is removing diary from your diet if you are nursing. Tressa had a few episodes where she'd just cry; but nothing under true deffinition of colic. I'm so sorry you both are going through this.

If you've tried all those things and they didn't work it's probably not actual colic. She may just be fussy. I knew one baby whose collarbone was broken during birthing (the doctors didn't realize) and she didn't stop screaming for 2 weeks...until they figured it out and fixed it. Are you sure she's getting enough to eat? Enough wet/poopy diapers, etc.?

If you are using formula what kind? There are special types now and maybe switching would help.

I was breastfeeding but my lupus is acting up again and had to go back on meds

She was on the Similac Advance which is milk based. This was right off breastmilk and she threw up everything in her belly. So we switched her to the Similac Isomil Advance which is soy based and that was okay but she was still soooo fussy. We tried Alimentum which is a hypoallergenic formula in case the colic was caused by protein sensitivity, and that made no difference what so ever....

Now we are trying her on the Gerber Good Start Protect Plus, which is milk base, but the proteins are broken down some already, and it is the only formula with pro-biotics in it (much like what you find in yogurt). All the moms on my March 2010 Babies forum SWEAR by pro-biotics for fussy babies so we will see how she does on it.

She eats well, and doesnt spit up an excessive amount. She has plenty of wet diapers and has a BM every other day.....

I REALLY hope the pro-biotics work.

I would call your peds. GS is the formula we went to. Let them know what's going on and how long she has been on each formula. How much she is eating at once? Maybe her tummy is small and she is getting to much at once?

I put her back on the soy formula and she has been keeping it all down. She has been a little fussy this morning, but the afternoon was good and she was an ANGEL last night. Thank God!!!

I am thinking there is no rhyme or reason to it....
