My new 12-week old, Bella, seems to think that 3:30, 4:30, 5:00, 6:00 is prime time to play with me and my other 11-month old kitten, Boo. She nibbles on my ear, licks my eyes and lightly bats my cheek in an effort to get me to play and then the two of them go at it full force playing, nipping, rolling around, racing across the room, jumping up on my bed and me and then jumping off the other side - only to do it all over again. I don't have the heart to lock them out and I know they would only cry and scratch at the door. I play like crazy with them before bed and even feed them late. Any suggestions? I'm exhausted!

Maybe more interactive toys outside your room. A box with ping pong balls inside comes to mind. I would also get ear plugs and shut them out if you really need to get a good nights sleep. Make sure to continue to play with the kitties hard and then feed them. After running around and the calming period of eating they will sleep better.

By this time next week I will have a new kitten, Masquerade, AKA "Raider". I think she will fit in with the other kittens well and we will be "vanillaing" all the cats. The whole house is going to smell like vanilla! LOL

Keep us posted about the night races!

Oh believe me, my home looks like a cat toy store exploded inside. Maybe I'll get some sleep when she gets older. :-) Now little Bella seems to think that kissing me on my lips will make me want to play at 3 a.m. :-)

This is typical play and prey time hours. The kittens are simply following instinctive behavior. You can play with them interactively during the day, as much as possible as well as right before you lay your head down to sleep feed them both a warm bowl of cooked oatmeal (no milk) They should sleep through the night then.

And that doesn't work?

Sam tries that, followed by knocking things off the night table one by one, then lies with his butt on my face. That works.

I keep waiting for the cats to adjust their schedule to sleep at night. I hear a rumor, that may be more of a legend, that some cats do this.

Sherral cats are scent driven and if you have a new cat in the house and you put vanilla extract under each cat's chin and at the base of their tail, you make them all smell the same scent and lessen the smell of the "intruder."
