Meowing

Hi All,

Firstly, great site I am a regular user but a first time poster.

My cat recently escaped outside for the first time through a screen during the middle of the night. Ever since this has happened she constantly meows and cries during the early evening through out the night until day light starts to appear.

She runs from window to window, to window doing this (the back and forth between windows is not new, but the crying certainly is).

She is fixed so thank god for that as there are several strays in the neighborhood so I assume she is crying for her new friends, but am at wits end with crying from 'sun down to sun up'.

Is there anything I should be concerned about health wise? Is there anything I can do to help ease the crying. She does live with her birth sister and a dog so I don't think she is seeking attention as it starts to happen just before sundown while we are awake.

Nothing has changes with her eating or bathroom habits, nor any environmental changes other then wondering out into the outdoors.

Since this started happening and I hear her to start to cry I immediately begin to think of the 'cats diary' - http://www.kittens-lair.net/cat-humor/cats-diary.html

Any thoughts, suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve

As long as you don't let her out any more, this should slowly taper off. If you let her out, she'll know the meowing worked and she'll do it some more.

Yep, what MrBlanche said. Just be very vigilant about keeping her inside and this behavior should diminish.

She has tasted sweet freedom. :P In my experience, cats love being able to go outside and roam freely. Sadly, it just isn't safe for them...I do wish it was.

In time, she will start to forget again and be more content. But only time will solve this.
