Today I have a penmanship question:

When you are putting words on paper, do you usually write or do you prefer to print.

Since I have terrible penmanship, I prefer to print. Itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s not a whole lot better than my writing but you can at least read and understand it. Of course I do have to write when signing my signature on a check but honestly who writes their signature legibly

Well, when I'm writing on paper by hand I'm always writing...
I think you mean cursive.

I do a mix of the two, like many people do. I can't write fully in cursive, though, as it's always been hard for my hand to do without ending up looking sloppy or too dark.

I love writing but for some reason my wrist really hurts after a while, yet when I was at school I could write all day. x

A combination of both for me. My handwriting is not very good.

Because my spelling is not that great I would prefer typing to writing. But there are some situations where a hand written response is necessary.

Some times I compose what I want to say on my computer then copy it over.

Pretty well same here. I have terrible writing and printing actually. And much to the dismay of my boss and coworkers, my job requires alot of note taking

That reminds me. Does anyone else have this problem? I can spell better when typing words out than I can when hand writing anything. I'm not referring to spell check, either.

I can only assume it is because I am a self taught sight reader and learned a lot of spelling for words by their shape and not by phonics (which I still only barely understand). My own hand writing, being a mix, can get pretty sloppy so going by shape doesn't work so well.

I can't write in cursive...I used to be able to when I was in 1st and 2nd grade, but after that we could write any way we wanted and I started writing in print and never wrote in cursive ever again, so now I just can't do it without messing up.

Handwriting is illegible, so is printing, and my signature is loops and squiggles, therefore, I tend to use the word processor as supplied by Windows Office. I write a fair amount and see no sense in handwriting something and having to decipher it as I type it out. Forms, on the other hand, are a horrific thing to me and require painstaking work so the information is legible.

It depends on what I'm writing, but sometimes a mix of both.

I've heard they aren't even teaching cursive anymore - is that true?

Most of my communication is done via the computer, so my handwriting has really suffered in recent years. I'm of the age where strict penmanship was not stressed in school, so my cursive writing is all over the place, sort of backhand and the letters are a mix of cursive and printing (my printing is atrocious also, a random mix of capital and small letters.) My mother is nearly 80, and her handwriting is still beautiful and perfectly legible.

If you actually do have dyslexia (I don't know if your sig is just a joke or halfway serious), it's not that uncommon for dyspraxia and dysgraphia to overlap with it. Both can seriously affect handwriting.

I usually print. I like my print better than my cursive.

Heck, I usually type instead nowadays

It's many years since I've used anything that could really be called "cursive". It never really fit my hand, I guess. What comes out these days is kind of a mix of joined up printing with vestiges of cursive style. Most capitals are printed, but not all. That said, however, I think it's not bad to look at, and pretty legible, as long as I pay attention, rather than just scribbling.
