Hissing at Random Objects

hello all

We have a great 2 yr old SH Domestic

her health has been good (minus a reaction to a vacc. that gave quite a scare)
she eats normally and outputs normally. very active cat - lover her to bits.

she has started something quite odd evolving hissing at random objects!
it started maybe 6 mo. ago hissing at the broom/mop and now its gotten to the point where if im carrying a camera bag she hisses at it.. or i was carrying glasses into the kitchen and she hissed at it.. she was playing with a stuffed animal and then 2 min later was hissing at it.. when i say random objects i mean random objects!

doesn't happen all the time though its unpredictable.
the thing is she doesn't hiss and run/hide like she does when we bring out the vacuum, she hisses and stays around.. if you put it down she will approach it with her hair standing up, then leave only to hiss again when you pick it back up.
and in the case of the broom she will hiss at it and follow it around the room

at first we found it a bit funny but now we are beginning to worry this could be the sign of something else as it seems to becoming more frequent.

anyone experience this sort or behavior before
we are planning to take her to see a vet regardless just looking for thoughts on this

My Hissy used to do this, in fact, I never heard her make any other sound until a couple of years ago. She would walk up to me at feeding time, rub, look up and hiss. She would also hiss at the food dropping into the dish, at water being poured, just about at anything. She still hisses, albeit very softy, when she is looking for attention. The hiss is soft and apparently without menace because she has never hurt me despite being quite wild and her meow is equally as soft, just barely audible unlike her loudmouth brother who will sit under an open window and yell. Personally, I wouldnt worry much but it may be worth it to ease your mind to have her eyes checked. If she isn't hissing, puffing up then running off to hide, there may well be nothing to worry about.

She sounds very excitable, and wild in personality. Is the hissing also accompanied by growls and bites or swipes? As in, is she getting physically aggressive? A lot of cats hiss when in play. Maybe if you played actively with toys for her to go after like the mouse on a string or something, it'd channel and release some of her energy?
