My cat had blood tests on Monday vet said they were OKAY! I kept complaining she was bloated. Went back again today to a different vet in that practice she took an xray and could not believe how much fluid she had. I don't see how a vet can look at the blood and think nothing was wrong. The alt was low the HCT, MCV were low the neutrophil seg was high the lymps were high the monocytes were high. The absolute reticulocyte was off the charts "high". Anyway this vet took some fluid just to see really what it is but she feels liver and put the cat on Lasix and clavamox. She is 13 years old and its odd how it came on so suddenly though I have noticed she was thinning since 2 months ago. She seemed to go downhill after her brother died rather quickly form kidney disease last october? Glad I always ask for a copy of the bloodtests

That does seem rather odd that the first Vet said everything was ok with the blood test seemed obviously off-kilter! I think I would steer clear of that particular Vet from now on. Here'e hoping your furbaby feels better soon.

What did the 2nd Vet actually say? Lasix is to get rid of excess fluids, I think, and clavamox is an antibiotic, so I guess she suspects an infection rather than liver cancer?? What's the prognosis? Good, I'm hoping.

No, clavamox was just in case an infection started at the needle insertion for the ambiotheseis (SP) they took fluid out and did not want infection to start. I have tried to figure this out looked at bloodtests from my other cats as well its all very odd. WBC is good. If it was urinary wouldn't that show up on the blood tests as an infection. I tried to get the vet to do it get urine but she said it was not necessary. Got me

Urinary tract infections are diagnosed with a urinalysis or urine culture, not blood tests.

Liver failure can result if a cat loses weight too suddenly. Hope your kitty is on the road to recovery now.
