My poor Felix. Yesterday I brought home the neighbor's two "dust mop sized" dogs to dog sit until Sunday. They come several times a year and my wirehairs love them, as they lived with them their whole lives until they came to live with me.

Felix disappeared as soon as the dogs came into the house. These little girls are the most submissive things, and totally ignore the cats since they live with a house full of them. Felix, however, gets spitting mad if they as much as look his way. This morning he refused to eat his breakfast, but was tempted later with a fried egg.

Just as things started to settle, as they always do, the roofers showed up to replace our roof. They are currently a few feet above me now, tearing off the old shingles.

Felix isn't happy.

Felix is wandering around, crying pitifully. I tried to hold him and comfort him but he's too restless. If he looks out the window he just gets upset. It's just too much for a former feral to take.

I think I may try some Rescue Remedy on him, as it's hard to watch. Any other suggestions? All my other pets are fine, as are the neighbor dogs.

Poor poor Felix.

Oh poor little guy. Is there a room you can lock him away by himself in? He might feel protected in his own little room.

Things got worse....

I took the dogs into the backyard for a potty break while the men were working up front. As I was letting them in, Felix showed up, and...well...you can guess the rest.

He made a beeline for the LARGE clump of holly bushes in the far back flower bed. Holly is COVERED with spines so I would be totally punctured as would he if I reached in for him. Besides he hissed at me and I am confident he'd bite. I tried coaxing him out with a can of wet food but no luck. He's done this before when the yard guys came without warning last summer, and the backyard has a catproof fence, so he'll likely be safe, unless the gate is left open for an extended period of time.

Unfortunately, all of the workers are Mexican and we have a communication issue. I'm hoping their boss shows soon.

To top it off, while the dogs were outside I was watering my tomato plants. I turned around and caught one of MY dogs eating one of the worker's lunches!!!! OH CRAP. I tried to find the owner of the lunch and "think" I might have, but I'm not sure. I offered him $10, which he refused. I'm going to make him a sandwich, chips and soda later, though. I feel sooooooooo bad. The lunch looked good, too!

So for now I'll keep going out and trying to get Felix back in the house. If worse comes to worst, we'll wait until they leave and get him back. And yes, pushylady, he'll have his own room tomorrow.

Oh, did I mention I'm recovering from a back injury right now, too, and this running around and worrying isn't helping. I just want to hide under the covers!

Thanks for listening,

Cally

Got him!

When the workers went to lunch, I went outside with a can of kippers I keep for just such an emergency. I popped open that puppy, sat down with it and waited. It took about 15 minutes for his stomach to do the talking and he came out and I easily picked him up and brought him in to his "room." He can chill there the rest of the day and again tomorrow and then hopefully things will get back to normal. Well, except for the neighbor dogs---they'll go home on Sunday.

I'm worn out!

Wow, poor Felix - but what a great tale to read
I esp. like the fact that Felix could be tempted with a fried egg

LOL, my dh eats fried eggs a couple of times a week in the mornings, and ALL my cats line up to "lick the plate" when he's done. Felix likes semi-liquid yolk the best.

Yes, the whole thing is sort of funny. The sad thing is that as soon as the roof is finished, we'll be having our wood floors downstairs replaced.

POOOOOOOR Felix! Stay tuned for more drama!

Yay! I'm glad that had a happy ending!
I laughed when I read about your dog eating the guy's lunch! How perfect is that?

I hope it goes a lot more smoothly when you get your floors done.

I hope Felix gets a good night's sleep. He must be tired from the excitement of today.
