When Attitude(her and Nuts are litter mates and partners in crime) was 8 weeks old and still outside I had her her first vet appointment and then set about finding her. I found her walking around on Mitzi's roof and there were 3 black kittens lounging up there laying down in Mitzi's gutters up on the roof. They were all happy, they figured out how to climb the tree to get into Mitzi's roof. The ones outside still get on Mitzi's roof or climb up onto our roof. You'll heard thunking around on the roof and just say "Cats." Mitzi has the same experience of hearing them prancing around on the roof. Goldie(one of the mom cats) was climbing trees and to the roof the day right after her spay and they all do it, except Mama, but she has never been into climbing anything. To get on our roof they have to climb the latticework(and it is awesome to watch them do it, just how coordinated they are at doing it) outside either all the way up to the roof or up to the shed so they can jump to get on top of the shed and then onto the roof, Mitzi' is easy, all they have to do is climb a tree.
So exploring high places and loving it is in his genes.
