My vet took in a short-haired black and white male cat yesterday that was at death's door from starvation. She thinks he was somebody's house cat that got out and got lost. He is hanging by a thread. I met him today and the poor baby is in terrible shape. He is HALF the size he should be. She put fluids in him and he ate a little on his own and made a very wet, dark poop.

But he is not anywhere close to being out of the woods. It was too dark in there to take a pic of him with my phone's camera. But he did lift his head and look at me. He has beautiful gold eyes!

The clinic staff said he is even trying to purr, bless his poor heart.

So if you can spare some healing vibes for a little boy who lost his way and is in very real danger of losing his life, that would be wonderful!!!

No updates yet. I called and left a voice mail asking if he had survived the night... I didn't get a call back. I will try again tomorrow.

I emailed the vet and this was her answer as of late this morning:

He is doing as well as can be expected. He produced some solid stool this morning, and a huge puddle of urine, so his body is responding to care. He has some appetite, and is gaining ground now, growing stronger. He is a very purrrrry cat, and will knead with both front feet when he gets some petting. Nice guy. I'm glad the Good Samaritan picked him up off the road. I am cautiously optimistic he will survive, at this point, though his prognosis is still guarded, technically speaking.

We got his picture today, and we've begun sending word out in the neighborhood where he was found that he is here. We'll post the photo sometime later today, if things work right. (I'm not the computer petfinder person, just a country doc.)

Keep the prayers up--it's working. ;-)

A voice mail message from the front office says he also has coccidia - ugh!

So continued good vibes for this boy! He sounds like a sweetheart!

This is a follow up from the vet on this boy:

...and then we had a serious setback. He produced bloody diarrhea and stopped eating this afternoon. His stool is positive for coccidia (! very unusual in an adult cat) and for lung flukes, and for clostridial enteritis. He also shows a huge number of lymphocytes, which I hope is a valiant response to all the above pathology and I am dreading might be intestinal lymphoma. Poor cat. He allowed a really nice belly scratch today.... I've treated him for the coccidia, the lung flukes and the enteritis so we'll see how he feels in the morning.

Doc, who is discouraged about now.

C'mon little guy, c'mon!!!!!

This is from the vet this morning:

...and this morning he's holding his own. His finder is coming to visit him today, for some lap time.

Good. Maybe if they cannot find his original home, this person will adopt the poor baby.

I haven't even asked how the vet is covering the cost of care.

glad to hear he is still hanging on. It would be wonderful if he could have a forever home when he is recovered. continued

Here is the latest from the vet on this guy:

...the Lucky cat found on the side of the road is doing quite well, all things considered. His bowels are working properly, he has a good appetite, and he is gaining strength enough to walk around a little and greet us at the front of the cage in the morning. He still has quite a way to go to regain his original health, but he's on the right road. I still have to pull a blood sample for FeLV/FIV testing, but I suspect that will be fine since he would not have recovered from this if he was clinical for either disease.
