Southpark & Comedy Central

Has everyone heard about this?

Southpark was in the process of doing a two-parter of which part 1 had been aired. I didn't see it as I don't watch Southpark, I think Southpark is crappola. But, evidently, Part 1 depicted the Prophet Mohammad in a Bear suit and the Muslim extremists went into a tizzy and the threats started.
BIG TIME. Threats of death against the two southpark creators and their family and Comedy Central, blah, blah, blah.

So, Comedy Central, in their infinite wisdom pulled the plug on Part II.

In other words, they caved, to Muslim extremists.

Opinions? Thoughts?

It's hard to blame them when so many others with so much more power have caved as well. What's a mere TV network to do when half the nation's politicians look at Muslim extremists as being, not criminals, but mythical mortal enemies that can't even be extended a fair trial, too dangerous and super powered to bring to the US even in chains, that must be sentenced to immediate destruction by secret conclaves held far, far away.

That's way out of a TV networks ballpark.

I believe the episode is number 201. Muhammad is portrayed as a black bar with the word "censored" on it, and bleeped out the name when it was said. Both of the censoring tactics were done by Comedy Central before the episode aired last week. They actually depicted an image on Muhammad during an episode back in 2001 as part of group of religious figures called the Super Best Friends (kind of a take on the Super Friends). They aired another episode in 2006 where Comedy Central censored the image of Muhammad.

The 201 episode includes the Super Best Friends, a cult led by Tom Cruise referenced to as the "Legion of Doom", an extremist group of ginger kids, Neil Diamond, and Mecha-Streisand. Both episodes are about free speech in the face of censorship and intimidation. Of course the episodes are done in typical SP fashion which some often find offensive.

I'm a fan of South Park and I was pretty curious how this was going to pan out. On one hand I understand why the network chose to censor, on the other hand I don't believe that we should in any way cower to terrorists. We can't live in fear all of the time- that is exactly what these extremists want. I loved the episode where a tv show was planning on showing an image of Muhummad, the US was threatened, and the response was for everyone to literally stick their heads in the sand. If we allow religious extremists and terrorists to dictate what we can and can't show on American television, I have to say- they've won.

Shame on comedy central for caving in to these dumb muslim extremists!! Morons!! I love South Park and they SHOULD air part 2. If muslims don't like it, to bad, don't watch it. That would be like me caving to the animal rights lunes!! If I was threatened by any of these AR groups I would say, bring it on idiots!!

I love south park, they cover lots of "taboo" topics

I think its woron that again we "normal" people (not extremists/terroists....etc) are bowing down to them again, comes down to the same old saying, if you dont like what is on the tv you can do one of 2 things turn it over or turn it off

I'm not sure it was censored before it was aired the first time, or maybe I'm thinking of the original one that can now only be viewed in a censored form, if at all.

I understand the fear, but if fear can make us behave that way, we've already lost the war, not just the battle.

NPR had an interesting piece on it yesterday. They were pretty concerned about the power of Muslims to force everyone not to do what they can't do, which is to depict Mohamed. And that's a fairly recent belief; originally, the Arabs painted him in all sorts of paintings.

This would be the equivalent of Jews killing people who ate pork, just because they can't eat pork, according to the NPR analysis.

The world is going to have to decide if they are going to descend into subservience to these cultural terrorists, or resist.

They mentioned in passing the book about the furor over the cartoons printed in the Danish press. The publisher, Yale, removed all the cartoons from the book, over the protests of the author.

We should NEVER bow to an extremists threat. What Comedy Central should do is air both episodes for 24 hours non stop. Thats why God made remote controls. Don't like it, as stated, turn it off or change the channel.

I will confess I have used my remote. I have never watched more than a few seconds of the show. I really dislike it. But I haven't tried to outlaw it.

I was reading yesterday (I'll try and find a link)
that there are many people fired up by this, liberals and conservatives alike.
Some blogger or something (I may be wrong about it being a blogger) has suggested that this needs to be diluted.

Meaning, extremists have threatened the Southpark guys and Comedy Central with death to them AND their families if they didn't back down on this.
This blogger, or whoever, is putting out there, May 10th, I think is the date, as "Draw A Picture of Mohammad" Day for everyone to drawa pictures of Mohammad and put them on the internet.

The premise is, the Extremists can't kill EVERYONE.

I love South Park and if you can get over the crappy graphics, crude humor, and obnoxiousness of the whole thing, it is really a brilliant show. Sometimes I’m actually shocked at the end meaning of the shows and how much depths and truth they can add to such a stupid show. At the end of most of their episode they always have a very intelligent and brilliant view on the world and life… they just show it in the most obnoxious way possible lol.

As for this whole thing, it’s just stupid. I am Jewish, I LOVE this show and I think 100% of all their shows make fun of Jewish folks. Same with Jesus, Jesus actually lives in South Park and they are always making fun of him. This is America/Canada… freedom of speech is part of our country I’m all for immigration and I love the fact that so many cultures can live together and learn about each other…. But if you can’t follow the rules of the country you are in, freedom of speech, leave and go home…

To be honest I have been reading the blogs, and article and the only thing this whole thing has done is promote a lot of hatred and racism towards Muslims… it’s like we are going back in time… it upsets and scares me because I’d hate to se anyone suffer because of a few stupid extremists.
