Hello

My girlfriend and I took in a stray cat (L.P.) last semester, and she turned out to be pregnant. We cared for her pretty well and she had four healthy kits, who we raised for a number of months, until we found homes for three of the kittens. Since we've had L.P. and Maui (the kitten), they get along fine and seem happy, but Maui is still nursing, now almost 31 weeks from when she was born, Sept. 28th of last year.

Has anyone else had a kitten nurse this long?

Also, Maui likes to bite/lick in my beard, almost like she's trying to nurse there too.

Any input would be appreciated. Catch you cats on the flip side.

I know many kittens who are still with their mums at one year old (and beyond) and will try to nurse, or nurse off another cat.

Alright, well, that puts my mind at ease.
I just wanted to make sure her development wouldn't be stunted or anything.
I think its allowed her to grow pretty quickly

Yeah, them suckling on this and that isnt unusual, and usually nothing wrong with it as long it isnt overdone.

I wonder, does the young cat still gets milk from mom?
Or is it mostly something it uses to do, like people suckling on their thumb?

Is Mom cat spayed?

My cats have remained with their Mom and they would try to nurse for a long while afterward, up to 3 and 4 years old. Now the only one who will occasionally try, Kiko and he just wants his nose buried into her chest.

Hi
It may just be a comfort thing and if mum is happy then so be it. My cat candy suckles on herself and gets great comfort

My new sphynx tries to nurse on his own nipple and he is 5.5 months old.
Also my Cocos daughter nursed off her until she was 6 months old.
