So the thread is just kind of a poll/question to the board. Just kind of a random question that popped into my head.

Do you have an allergy that you absolutely HATE?

I'll start first, I am allergic to tomatoes. If I eat something with tomato in it I get skin rashes and itch all over. It really sucks. I love pizza, spaghetti and things that include tomatoes. Hell they are not even so bad raw. To be honest I'm also allergic to shrimp, and while it sucks as well (the reaction is even far more severe then the tomato one) but it was easier to cut shrimp out of my diet. It is only a problem if we are at a seafood place. So my #1 hated allergy has to be tomatoes.

So how about you? What are you allergic to?

Allergic to chilies and green peppers. Impossible to eliminate from diet as chili powder seasoning is only listed as 'spices' on packaging. Also allergic to a colorant in (usually cheap) vanilla icecream.

Its a problem as many people love Mexican food and its cheap. I can't eat any of it.

Asian cuisine is hit or miss. Indian is usually okay. Thai, kimchee and szcheuan chinese is hit or miss!

My cousin's friend has that too but it extends to any type of fresh fruit (tomatoes are fruits as we all know) meaning watermelon, apple - Ugghh I can't imagine. When he told me, I was in disbelief.

My system tends to be sensitive to anything that's way too eggy. Yolks or whites -it doesn't matter. The sweet baked items I buy are egg-free (I have to read the ingredient list)

It's not an allergy, but I recently developed lactose intolerance and it is seriously annoying! I miss pizza, cheese sandwiches, mac&cheese, etc... Those pills that are supposed to make it ok to eat dairy don't work on me.

Ragweed. In late August early September I am a miserable itchy mess. Itchy eyes, nose, throat, sneezing etc.

Unless the sisal reaction is an allergy, I don't have any at all.
I'm sensitive to a lot of things - like perfumes, some chemicals, smoke. But none of these are things containing proteins so all they are is sensitivities and not allergies.

I'm mildly lactose intolerant, too, Nekochan. Not all cheeses are the same. The aged cheeses are usually safe. And though rarer in the US, there are lactose free cheeses.

Wow, my sympathies go out to all u guys...can't imagine trying to avoid something so intrinsic as veg, or tomatoes, or chilli!!

Years ago I had crippling sinuses, woke up daily and spent bout 4-5 hours before I could see clearly....short story, I went to health food shop, had an allergy test, got a list of about 15 things I was 'allergic' to but the main were wheat and milk/dairy. So cut out dairy for about 2 years, slowly re-introduced it to my diet, just to see how it would be, and thankfully I'm fine now. While I don't eat nearly as much as I did in the past, and certain chocolates set me off sneezing it's not something I have to seriously worry bout anymore.

More recently, couldnt shake the flu, got blood tests and was told I'm allergic to house dust mites and....wait for it....cat dander!! Doctor's solution was to "get rid of the cats"... like that was EVER gonna happen!

But took up carpet in my bedroom, shucked everything in boxes to make dusting easier...and hey presto I'm saved. As for the cats, Salem greets me by walking up and down rubbing himself over my face (think he's marking his territory?!) and no sneezing or runny eyes from me, Whoo Hoo!!

So I'm just wondering if those of you with allergies have managed to eliminate the trigger and see if after a while you could re-introduce it? Although maybe that's the difference between 'intolerances' and clinically diagnosed 'allergies'?

I am allergic to latex. It's not that big of a deal except I work in a store that does helium balloons and working with the latex balloons makes my hands really dry.

Not really an allergy by definition, more of a sensitivity.....but I'm lactose intolerant, meaning my body lacks the enzyme required to digest dairy products.

It's a complete pain! Most places don't have lactose free products so I either have to bring along Coffee Mate or my own milk if I go to restaurants and want to have coffee or tea.

Fish & Shellfish - it means that my BF has not been to Red Lobster for dinner since we moved in together, Laureen, I can't imagine being allergic to chicken as well as seafood

I started having severe allergies in my 20's so I had some testes done......The first thing they told me was I am allergic to my cat, I said "Yeah, and....Because that's never going to change, they will always be part of my life". Then they told me pollen, so I'm allergic to my second love and part career, gardening and plants! Give me the allergy pills because someone is testing me

Same here but both cat and dog. We have 2 cats and 1 dog so I take two allergy medications. I bought the special pillow case liners but have not been as diligent about dusting/vacuuming.

Latex, which is bad for me because its recently ended up in the water supply here >.<; So happy I'm moving soon.

Also cats in general, although I've desensitized to mine although some days she'll do something and my allergies will flare up. Must always keep allergy pills in my desk else I be a not so happy camper :-/.

At my job, we are not allowed to have latex balloons since one of the employees is highly allergic, even to the dust that they omit when someone pops one. Last time they had a friendship gram day (balloons and a small stuffed toy) she needed to be taken away by ambulance.

Me, I have mild allergies to mushrooms and cabbage. I am also allergic to a lot of pollen and such. Over 30 years ago, when I was dating DH, we drove to the beach to visit his parents. My allergies cleared up during the trip. When we were coming home and was driving down the hills into the valley, my nose and head started to get stuffy. My Dr at the time told me I was allergic to my city. I grew up here! But I am allergic to the pollution, industrial and agricultural pollens and such. I have just learned to live with it.
