Hello. I'm having issues with my male gray tabby of a little over a year. I got him as a kitten, shortly after I had to put down my last cat, after having urethra clogging issues over and over again, 'til it reached the point of no return. I picked this kitten out, as he was the one in the group that settled down in my lap, and fell asleep. I picked him, assuming he'd be quite social. This was the case for a while, as he used to climb up my comp. chair, to sleep in my lap, and such. As he grew up, he got more violent. We never were able to get him declawed, as inhumane as it is, and never could afford to get him fixed. As of now, I'm at witsend, and need some advice. He likes to fight, or "play", and it's violent as he still has claws, and has the spirit of Leonidas in him, for which he's named. Once he starts, it's quite difficult to calm him down. It usually requires distracting him, or physically placed elsewhere. He also started spraying recently, and clawing up my door; explained soon.
As of now, the routine is; I come home, I spend some time with him, I then retire to my room, with the door shut. If he's not distracted or sleeping, he'll sit outside my door, and meow to get in. But I can't let him in, cause no matter how much I watch him, everytime he sprays something, like a bag of something, or my bed. But annoying meowing aside, he's now clawing up the outside of the door, which is a major problem as we rent. So my choices are ignore him and go crazy, let him in and deal with him spraying everything, or let him shred the door. I can't afford to go get him fixed, as we can hardly stay in the house and eat. I've considered putting him up at a No-Kill shelter, because he's restless in my small house, and I can't deal with alot of this stuff.
What should I do?
