The sweetest thing she's ever done...had to share

Bit of background to the story, Shadow & her brother Salem (both jet black DSH's) are now 3 years old. I got them from foster home @ approx 8 wks. Neither were socialised so it's been a really long journey getting them to trust me and get confident in themselves. As of yet, Shadow still legs it when strangers enter the house, has only sat on my lap for max of 2 mins and on that's even on very rare occasions.

So, she came up to my bedroom the other day...I'm lying on my side (just finishing off bum-exercises, ouch!) and thinking she's come to ask for nibbles.

Well, outta the blue (and before I had a chance to stretch my screaming bum muscles) Shadow climbs up onto my hip, starts kneading my waist, curls up and decides to have herself a nap!! I'm so amazed at this, that I can't bear to disturb her...at least until my bum starts screaming to be stretched.

So I start to roll forward thinking she'll feel the urge to jump off, but instead I get her claws as she hangs on to her comfy spot. Instead I slowly roll from my side onto my back and she crawls forward until she's sitting on my tummy (her bum in my face, thanks missus!) and continues her nap!!

All was well, and I figured to settle in and enjoy the moment...but damn and blast, a few minutes later the doorbell went and that was the end of Shadow's nap as she decided to bolt for cover (as per usual).

Still, it was such a rewarding moment, and made me happy for all the effort I put in coaxing her outta herself (ish).

The first time my feral Joji cuddled beside me I froze in shock yet almost shed tears of joy.

AAww. that is sweet!!! I hope that is just the first of many tender moments you two share!! It must be something about those bum exercises that brought her around, huh?

oh, how wonderful - and you know that rear end in your face is a great compliment, right? An expression of great trust in you to watch her back - as though you're her mom.

I think cats are much more comfortable with us when we come down to their level. Everytime I lay on the ground to do exercizes or whatever, mine come running up to me for cuddles. It's like "Hey look, mommy has come down here to play with us!". Try getting in that same position again when things are calm and see if she'll do it again.

Thanks for ur replies all! Yeah deffo a sign of trust that she gives me her tush (is that how u say it in the US?). I remember bout 6 months after we met, if she was asleep on the couch, I'd just be able to touch her paws if she was sleeping and comfy, and if I came any closer then she'd scarper...so having her make herself comfy on me is an absolute blessing.

Today, I sat in the kitchen beside her, and she sat up on my outstretched legs for some pets, then curled up and stayed there (for about 30 seconds!)...and it got me thinking that I'd sit in that very position (the farthest from their beds under the kitchen table) where even a cough/sneeze/nose scratch from me had her cowering in the beginnings....oh how far we travel on a road where we don't yet know the end destination!

I'm still being blessed with their daily behaviour and confidences:-)

It is so beautiful to see those walls start coming down and to be able to watch them begin to trust and love. You got me all grinning and teary! Such big steps for a little black kitty!
