When we lived in a one bedroom apartment, we put our new cats in the bathroom and laundry room. There wasn't a lot of space there, but it was better than a cage or the parking lot outside or dead. A bathroom would probably be the easiest place to clean up. You could stick piddle pads on the walls to protect them.

I don't know what OBV is, or I might give you better advice.

Oh!

It's horrible that they used him that way. Poor thing. I don't know how long before he stops spraying. If I were in your place, I'd probably keep him in the bathroom with piddle pads stuck on the wall, and a feliway diffuser if you can afford it. I remember reading on here that a cleaner called Nok-Out is good for cleaning up kitty piddles.

Hopefully, someone who knows more about spraying replies here soon.

Mostly, I just wanted to say that I think you're awesome for getting involved with TNR.

Are you renting or a home-owner? The reason I'm asking is because if you are taking in a cat that sprays right now, you may face issues down the road with your landlord (if there is one).

IMHO - don't feel pressured to take in this cat if it doesn't seem to be a good idea and something you feel up for. Could you handle the spraying if that continues for a while? I think it takes a few months for the hormones to get out of the system after neutering - and won't necessarily stop the kitty from spraying. Feliway will help though.

I just don't want you to feel pressured by a rescue group to take in a kitty that may be hard to manage if you're not up for it. I hope that makes sense and that I'm not coming off as a heartless jerk.

omg a month i thought the odor goes down in like a couple of days to the point where u cant even smell it hardly? The house is family owned and im going to have roomates soon so i dont want everyone to get mad at me for letting a skunk in the house lol plus my roomates have their own pets i dont think the other animals will be happy about tom cat spray either i was hoping after being nutered a few days he would calm down a lot? I was told by his breeders he only sprays outside and not in the house but the breders are backyard breeders and would say anything to get someone to take the cat off their land and i doubht they ever let him in the house anway but who knows.

A striking example why you never ever should buy from "farms" nor bad backyard breeders. Nor petshops who usually gets their kittens and puppies from backyard breeders.

I agree with Killerapple. Dont feel pressurized into it. It isnt you who are responsible for this mess. If you dont have some easy to clean up bathroom or such, so you dont.

As you say, it should be easier after his neutering. He MAY proceed to spray, but the odor will be much lesser.
You can also use a Feliway diffuser. It can help some.

But it may take time yes. Especielly as he was stud such a long time.

In our home boys, the hormon-niveus went down rather quickly. A week or shorter. But they were both friendly home family cats, although also doing some stud.
Other toms are rapported to keep on over a month...

So dont take on him if you dont have a proper, easy to clean place to have him in.

Good luck!
