I see that there is a sticky topic with links to pet loss sites, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any good books that touch on the subject. I'm definitely a reader and I often look for books to help me figure out ways to deal with things. I've looked up pet loss books on Amazon and there are so many, so I was wondering if anyone knew of specific good ones. I lost a kitten almost 3 years ago to leukemia and I found out yesterday that my 2 year old cat has polycystic kidney disease and probably won't live a long life.I don't feel like I ever recovered from the grief of losing my kitten and now I'm faced with the inevitable early death of another young cat. I'm not even handling the possibility of his death very well right now, so I know I won't be able to handle it when it actually happens. I was hoping to find some books to read to possibly help me through this

YES!!! An excellent book that I bought after my beloved kitty died is called, "The Loss of a Pet" by Wallace Sife, PhD. I have read and re-read it many times and highlighted passages in it. It covers many types of pet loss and death. It has been like a bible to me. It covers topics like Euthanasia, Religion and pet loss, Children and the Death of Pets, and pets that run away. It's just a good book.
