Vibes for Bickford

I have to call the vets office when they open @ 7:30 this morning. Bickford seems to be constipated. I gave him some lactoluse last night and he tried to poop but it didn't come. He's sitting by his food bowl, wanting to eat but can't. This hasn't happened to him in a while (over 2 years). Any vibes you can spare would be appreciated.

Poor baby! I hope he is ok. Here are some vibes for him to get well.

Yeah, he needs to see the vet. Hope he will improve.

Earliest appointment I could get is 9:40. He seems to be OK for the moment - alert and interacting with the other cats.

They're keeping him for the day. He had to be sedated to be cleaned out. Vet wants me to change food to prescription food that I know he won't like. I really don't want to go that route (been there before with him for his weight). And my brother just called - his dog had to be rushed in this morning with a seizure.

What is the prescription food for? Constipation? My Sven has chronic constipation, and when the lactulose stopped working, we switched to Miralax (over the counter - so much cheaper!!) and it's a miracle worker. He's been "regular" ever since. And it's much less sticky than lactulose, so he takes it much easier.

coming your way for Bickford. I love his name! I hope this clears up. My older cats start having this problem eventually also.

While my brother was in with his dog he asked about Bickford (the vet staff knows we're related). The report was that Bickford was getting fussy, which is a sign that he's getting better.

What are you feeding him? If you're feeding all dry, you might try adding a daily serving of canned food. That has helped my chronically constipated cat tremendously.

He (and my other 3 cats) get wet food. When Bickford first came to me he only ate dry and ballooned up in weight. When I finally got him switched to wet he lost the weight and stopped having constipation problems until now. Now I have to wonder if a recent change from Meow Mix Market Selects to a store brand may be the cause. If so I'll get the Meow Mix again. I switched because they only had cases with fish flavors at BJ's Wholesale Club - bought the store brand because those cases came in both fish and meat selections.

Hmmm...you may have something there. You can always try switching back to the old food for a couple of weeks to see if he improves.

I'm going shopping on Saturday so I'll load up on Meow Mix and see what happens. At least he was eating and even let me give him his meds this morning.
