Hello.

Just to let you know.
This is just a run of the mill conversation. No serious concerns.
My girlfriend and I have never had kittens before. Not from birth anyway.

Right around 3 months ago we found a stray on our porch and we brought her in and called her Fluffy. Who was pregnant.
We have two cats that have been with us since they were 8 weeks old.
Who are almost a year old now.
But we got them fixed before any babies could be made.
Now all 3 cats are indoor cats. I've seen the horrible things that happens to my friends cats after they let them out at night. That isn't the kind of thing I want our cats to go through.
The two cats we already had are spoiled. I yell and they listen but they love to test my patients. Their names are Pink (Female) and Peach (Male)
Brother and sister.
On March 26th of this year Fluffy had her kittens.
They're a little over 3 weeks old and they're getting around nicely.
All 5 of them.
I'll sit on the floor and they get the impression I'm their personal jungle gym. Which I kind of like, but don't tell the girlfriend.
I've come to recognize the sounds Fluffy makes when she wants her babies to follow her around or come to her.
Here's the thing (finally!)
Pink seems to like the kittens. I think her maternal instincts kick in or something around them.
But Peach appears to be undecided. We keep mom and the kittens in our bedroom, but last week Fluffy kind of got tired of that idea and high tailed it out of there the second we opened the door.
We decided to leave the door open and just watch over the kitties to make sure nothing bad happened. Which has become standard practice now.
Mainly because I can understand Fluffy's desire to get out of that room.
But now when she leaves she calls the kittens to her. When she didn't before.

I've watched Peach sneak up on the Kittens every now and then, and everytime he does he hisses after he gets a good whiff of what they are.
But, he never attacks them. Matter of fact one of the kittens was trying to figure out what he was and wound up chasing Peach down the hall.
Can you tell I like to type? hehe
After all that I have two questions.
Is Peaches being shy out of a sort of ignorance of the world, having been raised sheltered by us?
And if we leave the house and the kittens unattended is there a chance Peaches might hurt one of them?
Because so far, we only let Fluffy and the kittens out of the room when we're not sleeping or we're home.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and answer my questions or join in the conversation.

It sounds like Peaches is a little jealous
My little girl hates it when we get foster kittens because we play with them and not her...males especially(mostly unneutered, but even neutered boys) tend to be quite territorial...with time he'll get used to them, but for now, I wouldn't leave them unattended with him...he probably wouldn't hurt them, but since they're getting playful, but they're still so small, he may get a little defensive...I say better safe than sorry at this point

And thank you for taking in this pregnant stray- you're giving these kittens such a better chance at a great life!

Many adult cats (esp males) dont really knows what small kittens are, and are a little afraid of them. Hissing some and such.
It usually gets better when the kittens grows older - they get recognized as young cats, and thus, can be played with.

It can be jelaousy also, as CuteKittenCat says.

So, dont forget to cuddle a lot with your residents.
Do proceed to let them meet - supervised.

Till they are all good friends, or at least - neutral, but accepting.

You will surely adopt out the kittens, so stricktly speaking, it isnt necessary for your boy to meet them or be friends with them.
But it will be good for the kittens to meet also other cats then momma. Good for their socialization.

Well home raised, well socialized kittens arent difficult at all to find good homes for. Dont forget to ask fee for them. "What is free is practically worthless" for many people. Thus - avoid to giving away cats for free unless in special cases where the new owner takes it as a precious gift.
If you feel it touchy to ask for money, ask them to donate a sum to say, Doctors without boundaries, Red Cross, Amnesty International, a Church - almost whatever - in the cats name.

Tx for helping the stray out!

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions.
I'll be giving Peaches more attention.
I think the idea that he doesn't know what they are yet is probably the closest.
But I'm sure with the new cat in the house he could easily feel a little ignored.

No thanks required, it's making for some rewarding moments and giving us an experience I wish we had a long time ago.
We're keeping two of the kittens and their mom.
We want to keep all 5 of them but that simply isn't going to be possible. So we're going to miss the little guys.
We have made arrangements with a local shelter to adopt the other 3 out.
The shelter is going to fix mom and all 5 kittens for free and screen anyone looking to adopt the 3 we cant keep.

That's so great that the shelter is doing that for you!
I'm sure they'll all go to great homes!

I think my worries about Peaches are over.
At first he was a little ruff with the kittens, swatting them around and what not.
But then this little black and white kitten (that we're keeping) decided to chase Peaches around. We kept a watchful eye as this little guy wouldn't leave Peaches alone. He chased Peaches down every where Peaches went. Playing with Peaches tail and swatting Peaches in the face.
Finally, Peaches held the little guy down and gave him a bath and they took a nap. Shortly after they fell asleep another kitten joined them in their nap. When they woke up Peaches had to deal with two kittens.
Funniest thing.

Aww, what cute pictures!
I can't wait until Zoe's kittens are that big, but they were just born today, so I still have a while to go

Yeah....
I think kittens are the cutest when they're 3 or 4 weeks old
