Oh my, I haven't been able to catch the other pregnant female (McSpot) and put her into the pen. Well, this morning I went to feed the kitties and she wouldn't come. I called and called. Finally, my siamese Baby, started to search too. We found her. In the backroom. The door was left open just incase I couldn't catch her before she gave birth.

Well, thats what she did! She went into the backroom found a cozy dark place and had her kittens! Just born within the last 30 minutes as they are still wet and the sac is still laying around. Both are solid black. I don't know if she is going to have more or not. She seems to be doing ok. Just pooped from having them.

Update: We're up to three kittens now! The last one is a black-based Calico (my cousin called it a Tortishell?).

Haven't handled babies any, but did give momma lost of praise. She is just pooped. And I'm not so sure she knows what to do.

Baby, my siamese that lost her litter recently, is NOT taking to them very well. It's like she thinks that they are her kittens and McSpot stole them. She found them and started hissing and growling at them. She is not allowed to be around them now.

Your instincts seem good. I wish you and the babies and mama-cat the best. I'm sure others here will offer up suggestions

Thanks.

I'm wondering, since she is kinda open to the outdoors, if I should move her and the kittens to my bedroom. Since she is a 99.9% outdoor cat I don't know if she would take to a litter box or if I should get the box and fill it with sand and litter and eventually get to just litter.

She's not all wound up right now. So she'd be easy to catch. Just pick her up.

Another Update! Looks like we are upto 4 kittens!! Finally got a good look at them when I moved momma and babies to my room. 1 white calico, 2 black tortishells, and 1 solid black. Looks like momma had missed one of the sacs and it was still attached to the kitten. It wound up getting tangled around one of the other kittens necks. I got to it just in time.

My heart melts looking at them! Momma was relieved to see me come with a bowl a fresh water and some food!

Tortoishell:

Both colours are guarenteed females
That's what we got then. 1 calico and 2 tortoishell.

I took pics of momma and the babies but won't be able to post until tomorrow as the camera cables are MIA lol.

I've never heard that those colors are guarenteed females before. Why is that?

Lol, why do things always disappear right when you need them...

As for the colour patterns, here's a quoate from this site

http://fanciers.com/other-faqs/colors.html

"Are tortoiseshell cats always female?

Tortoiseshell and related colors (blue-cream, patched tabby, calico etc.) are the result of a sex-linked gene and require two X chromosomes to appear. Generally speaking, these colors will only appear in females. Very rarely, these colors may appear in male cats, but these males are genetically abnormal (they have XXY instead of the normal XY) and are almost always infertile."

Hope that helped!

Since I'm a fashion addict, I thinking of fashion-related names. I want to keep it a theme with these bunch.

The tortie twins (as I call them) are most likely going to wind up as Coco and Chanel. Pucci will be the calico. And since I don't know what the solid black one is yet, I picked out Armani (for a boy) or Seiko (for a girl).

I just
fashion. I started to name them all after shoes! lol

But, there is always a chance I could change that idea ....

I know, they are so cute. Especially those teeny tiny ears and noses and paws!!

I plan on starting a thread just for them and to give weekly updates/pic of them so I can see how they've grown. It would be a great way to keep track of it all ...

... ... ... ... ... ...

So on to the update:
Momma is getting the hang of it all now. She is starting to realize she doesn't have to be with them 24/7. She is adjusting well to being an indoor kitty. But, still likes to go for a romp in the yard. She won't use the litter box. Just comes over and meows for me to let her outside. But, if I plan on keeping her when I move, she will need to learn to use it since I will most likely end up in an apartment. No big yard or woods to run around in that way.

Baby is not happy with me now. Since I won't let her near the babies. All she wants is a baby of her own. She has always been a great momma. I feel so bad for her.
When she hears the kittens mew she cries and cries for me to let her near them. I just don't want to risk her taking the babies from Spot.

I love your names! They're very cute and unique

Poor Baby...does Spot like her? If she does, some mothers like to share the care of the babies, but that's usually only with kitties that are friends
