Recently I moved to a new house in a whole different state(Arizona to Washington). Its an older house, not sure how old but most likely past 40-50 years old. Most houses in Washington are old though.
. I've been renting
it for only a couple months now. It hasn't been rented for a few months but I think that's because the strange floor plan it has, 2 bedrooms upstairs when you go up it takes you directly to the first open bedroom, no door. You go through that room to the second bedroom which also has no door but there is a door way. Down stairs is the living room, kitchen, bathroom is in kitchen and then the laundry room and last bedroom is in the very back of the house which that end seems like the ceiling is lower then the rest of the house. Also the back door is in the laundry room. I'm pretty sure it use to have a basement because the floor seems hallow when walking on it and the house is raised from the ground. They must of sealed it off, I don't know when though. It was remodeled awhile ago so maybe around that time.

Anyway, It started last week. I usually slept upstairs but the internet was in the downstairs bedroom so I stayed down there instead. At night the room feels uncomfortable but I Ignore it. Then one day around 3am, still pitch dark outside. I was on my computer still watching videos on you tube when All of a sudden I hear foot steps, at first I thought one of my family members was going to the restroom but this sounded different. It sounded as though it was wearing heavy boots it would walk right up to my door but then stop and go back to the kitchen. I heard it continuing going through the kitchen and living room till about 4 or 5am. I never heard it again. but every other night it sounds like somebody is always going through the kitchen and going into the bathroom, I can hear the door swing open and close. I can tell the difference when its somebody or something. It just sounds completely different there's no way to describe it. Luckily it never comes into my room, I do fear that it will though.

I'm not the only one who has experienced things in my house. A niece of mine sleeps in the living room every night but last night she heard what I heard and even saw a black shadowy figure. It freaked her out. My younger sis has also seen a women dressed in white in the bathroom. Ive never seen anything. I don't really want to either.

Well whatever it is. I'm not to fond of it but it can stay as long as it keeps to itself.

Sorry for long story.

I was wondering if anybody has had any ghostly experiences too?

My grandma used to swear that she could see an angel sitting on top of their cuckoo clock sometimes.

A lot of houses are like this but do not have basements. Most houses do however have crawlspaces below them - you need to locate that entrance and make sure you can use it. If you ever have plumbing issues, and sometimes even gas, it will require someone going under the house to fix it.

You say this is a house you haven't been in that long? Its really possible that you're not completely familiar with all of it's sounds, yet, nor how light cast in windows can move around. That actually still startles me sometimes - not because I think there's something in my home, but because it will look almost like someone shining a flashlight in. (we have a neighbor with very very bright headlights)

Do what you have to to actually get proof, photos, video, digital recordings. I wish I had been able to in my childhood home, it had some pretty crazy things that happened.

Oh. It must have a crawl space then! How would I locate it? I think I would probably have to pull the flooring up.
It doesn't sound like the house is making the noises though. It just barely started last week when I've been here for 2 months. It goes through the kitchen I can actually here It move
stuff around. Those things aren't that scary just that one foot step incident scared me like crazy! I really thought somebody got into my house but after
an hour it stopped! I didn't hear anybody go in or out. It only happens usually between 3-5am so I try to be asleep by then so I wont hear anything.

I'm gonna buy a tape record and see if I can actually get something on it!

Crawl space entrances will either be hidden in a closet - could be under carpet, or will have an outside entrance.

Is it finally starting to warm up there? That will cause a home to make different noises, too.

Do try to get a recorder if you can afford it. If you have a camera you can also take pictures if you ever feel weird or hear anything. This way if it becomes a problem for you, you could probably get someone to help.

I don't have any ghosts in my house. I have heard of these kinds of things thought. I would try to get it recorded somehow. I hope you don't get scared and have to leave.

I've never even imagined there may be ghosts in my house! I hope not but I haven't heard anything too weird besides the house settling from the change in temperature, etc..
If what you describe happened to me I would open the door to check what's making noise

A lot of times I hear something and then go see what it is and it's Jake knocking down my keys or something like that.

That is awesome if you do have one there. I used to in the other house I lived in. I can write page after page of the things that happened there. I wish I lived closer, I would stop by and do some EVP/EMF work to see if I could get any recordings. I have some awesome EVP records from my friends old house, that was built in the early 1800's. When I first started the EVP work, one the best recordings I got was on the very first day. I have a very loud EVP, female voice, saying "get out!!". I have many other recordings from there, males voices too.

I rented a house once that I think was haunted. Just one room was, though, I think. I just got an uneasy feeling everytime I had to go into that particular room, so tried not to go in there! Never saw or even heard anything, just had a "feeling". It was weird.

I've had friends who have sworn their houses were also occupied by ghosts, but said they were always "friendly"...played little jokes on people like tapping them on the shoulder and that type of things.

Plus, the people across the street swear there house is "haunted" by the previous owners, both of whom died there (from illnesses, not murder!!). I knew both of the previous owners, and whenever I go over to the house now, I always say "hi" to them. They (the ghosts) do things like turn on the celing fans, etc. I never feel scared to go over there, which I do regularly, often when no one is home, since I am their dog sitter.

I really believe in these things. I had an experience with my sister passing away in the hospital while I was at home getting ready to go visit her. I was just stepping out of the shower, Patches was curled up in the sink, napping. I felt a hand squeeze my arm very gently and at the same time patches woke up, startled, and watched something or someone that I couldn't see move out of the bathroom. She jumped out of the sink to follow it. I was shaken up a bit and had to sit down. Fifteen minutes later I got the call that my sister had passed away. My first response when I heard the news was, "I know, she was just here." I know a lot of people doubt these things, so I always hesitate to speak about them. I also had an experience with my mom. I just don't think that our connections with our loved ones have to be silenced by death. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble, but it's a great question.

Since I was young, I didn't have any way to get a hold of stuff to record with. We used to clearly hear voices in my childhood home. Often we'd think someone was calling out name. Another time I had gotten up one night to check my hamsters, who were upset over something, and as I turned back to walk to my bed something said "what are you going to do now?" in a deeper male voice near the bedroom door. My father was away working at that time, all tvs were off, and in that town almost all the houses are spread out enough that sound couldn't have carried from another home. Very odd, but by that time I had lived with it a few years and just went back to bed.

Stuff still happens there, I'm not sure how much since I'm not there to witness it and only the really out there obvious stuff gets my father and his wife's attention. (such as it banging around upstairs).

I've never had a ghost that I've known of, but I did rent a house with a basement for about a year and a half, when Turvy Demeter was barely a year old. And she would not, for love or tuna, go down in that basement. I tried to carry her down there one time, and it was like trying to cradle a running black n' decker circular saw.

I moved out without ever having seen anything out of the ordinary, and with Turvy never, ever having gone down into that basement.

I've had several experiences, they seem to find me. I also am almost 100% certain I have/had something following me.

When I was little we lived in an apartment house. My mom didn't believe it at first. The stereo would turn on and play the record in the record player backwards, lights would come on and off, her alarm would go off randomly. Then she was sitting in her kitchen explaining to her friend she thought the home was haunted, her friend told her no such things exist period and a ceramic chicken that had been on the fridge (6inches around it on all sides) flew off the fridge, hit the stove by where my mom was standing, and landed at the friends feet. Then things got worse, my mom woke up to the sound of us screaming to find us fast asleep when she got to our room. Then the same would happen and he would tell her that we were no longer hers, and he had us. At one point he blocked me into my room, standing in the doorway infront of me. So she had my brothers father come over, and check it out, he said it felt bad as soon as he walked in, after mentioning the stereo turning on and playing the record backwards he checked it, there was no record present in the stereo, the sounds were what "he" was producing himself.

We moved... that week. To find out later, a man had murdered his wife, children, and then killed himself in that home.

Now, I have weird encounters, my moms house now is haunted, by a little girl, and some random people that throw parties, I've woken up to hearing them laughing, and my brother heard them laughing and playing some sinatra.

I have dreams constantly of spiritual warfare, whatever haunts me follows me in my dreams and its war until I wake up, for a while it was one little boy, most recently it was random children. The little boy showed up in one of my moms dreams as well as crawling across her boyfriends sons floor one night. (before I'd even met him). I had something enter my house one afternoon. I felt it there when I got out of the shower, proceeded to bed, and my cat refused to enter. So I called in my dog, watched her watch it from the living room across the ceiling into my bedroom and to right above my head. I could feel it inside my brain, this humming sound and crazy feeling all over my brain. I prayed, hard, and it left, I watched my dog follow it back out of my room and living room and the entire air in my house went back to normal.

I definately have no choice but to believe they exist, I do everything I can to never think about it,watch anything on it, etc, and it still finds me and follows me.

However, you said your encounters are happening between 3am and 5am, 3am-4am is the witching hour, I refuse to get up out of bed during this time or do anything requiring being separated from someone else for that reason. but then again, I am justifiably paranoid sometimes.

We believe that my parents' house was haunted; we had too many things happen not to think so. Interestingly, the house was new at the time my parents moved in; they were the ones who built the house and nobody had ever lived there before them.

Right after we moved in, my sister and I were sleeping (I was probably around 7 or so). I woke up and saw an Indian standing by the bureau in the bedroom holding an ax. I put the covers over my head; I knew that he was there to chop off my head...I don't know how, but I knew. Every time I peeked out from the covers, the Indian was that much closer. And when the ax got to my chin, I screamed bloody murder. My parents came running. (Mom yelling at my dad because my uncle had told us a scary story that day, involving Indians.) The result was that I had to sleep with my dad and my mom slept with my sister. No sooner were the lights back out when my mother started yelling for my dad....there was "somebody" in the bedroom. We didn't get a lot of sleep that night.

One night, in the middle of the night, I heard a noise downstairs (two-story home). I went down the steps, opened the door, and heard a pig. Seriously, a pig. My dad said that I was dreaming, but no, there was a pig downstairs. A few nights later, my sister awakened me because she heard the same noise....the pig was there again; we could hear it. We went over to my parents' bedroom, but by that time, the noise had stopped.

Not too long after that, the kitchen caught on fire. Nobody ever found out why. About a year or so later, the attic caught on fire; the firemen think that a bird may have carried a lit cigarette to the window. But no cause was really ever found.

One morning, mom was making breakfast for my dad before he went to work. Suddenly the blender turned on. By itself. Dad told mom to turn it off. She couldn't. He went to unplug the blender....but it wasn't plugged in. It stopped and they threw it into the trash.

One night, I came home from being with friends. My parents weren't home; it was just my brother and me. I picked up the phone to call a friend and there was somebody on the phone line. He said, "I'm coming up to get you. Now." (We had a phone in the basement and I figured somebody was down there.) I got out of the house and sat in my car in the driveway til my brother got home. I told him what happened and we went back into the house, got my dad's gun and went down to the basement. Nothing. Nobody.

We went back up to the kitchen and sat down at the kitchen table. Only to hear a loud BANG! Back down to the basement, again with the gun. Nothing. Nobody. But my dad had been painting the spare hitch to the trailer and it had been on a table down there. It was on the floor. (Somebody want to tell me how a heavy trailer hitch "fell" off the table?) We spent the night playing cards until it got light outside. Went back downstairs for the third time. Nothing. And we never did find anything out.

Several years later, around midnight or so, my brother showed up at our house, white as a sheet. He was so nervous, he couldn't talk right. He just said there was somebody in the house. DH and I took him home and we went through the whole house. Nothing. He kept saying that he heard thumps and bangs. And voices whispering and laughing. He spent the night at our house.

My brother got into the habit of turning his radio on at night when our parents weren't home. That way he didn't have to listen to the "voices".

I refused to go into the basement of that house. You couldn't get me downstairs by myself for a million dollars, not even during the day. One day I was going to my parents for a jar of stewed tomatoes (my mother did a lot of canning back then and her tomatoes were delicious). She met me at the road going back to their house. I told her what I wanted; she said that she was going into town, but that I could help myself. Uh, thanks but no thanks. Me go into that basement when there was nobody else in the house? Nope, not gonna happen.

My parents no longer live there; they down-sized several years ago when their physical health became so bad that they couldn't stay there. Even though they had "things" happen to them, they always pooh-poohed the idea of the house being haunted. But no way will anybody tell us that house wasn't haunted. It was.

Sorry for the (very!) long thread. Yeah, I believe that there are things that we can't explain.

My current house is not haunted, but there is a friend that comes to visit. He pushes stuff off of the coffee table and tosses small items up and down.
When he passed away, I had just gotten up to turn off my overhead light, which had a very audible click when the chain was pulled. It came back on, with a loud click, a couple minutes after I had sat back down. We found out later that a bunch of people had the same thing happen, 350 miles away from us. He had a beautiful country home with pink roses all around it. When we returned from his funeral, 4 days later, there was one tall stalk growing out of the ground with a huge pink rose in full bloom. There had never been roses planted in that yard, and the owner had it landscaped a year earlier. I lost a ring at his funeral, and 2 years later and 1100 miles away, I heard this "ping" noise like something falling on my dresser, and there was my ring. We have moved several times since then, and George always seems to find us. I find it kind of comforting.
The weirdest thing I have seen lately was the ghost Marine at the old bus station on Camp Lejeune. I pulled up there in my cab one foggy Sunday morning, opened my newspaper, and felt someone watching me. I glanced up, and on a bench just a few feet away from me sat a strange looking Marine, looking at me. I nodded to him, he did not react, so I went back to reading my paper. I glanced up a few seconds later, and he was gone. I looked around, but did not see him. This is a very open parking lot, and he could not have had time to get out of sight. I drove around the building, and he was nowhere to be found. I got back to my parking spot, and was glad to see another cab pulling in. A few minutes later, it dawned on me what was so strange looking about him. He was in a vintage uniform, late 50s or early 60s. I wanted to research the building, but cannot go to the base library. I am really curious about him.

I am convinced my mother occasionally "visits" me. I can always tell because I suddenly smell her favorite perfume and odd things start happening: lights start going off and on and the curtains move, even though the windows are closed. I find it very comforting, only because I believe it's her. If it wasn't, I would be scared!

I am sure that my dad and my sister visit occasionally. I will suddenly smell his aftershave in places where his aftershave shouldn't be. A psychic told me he watches over me (she had no idea that my dad had passed). She pointed to a spot in the room and said, he's right there!
