I live amongst Four Cats. One is mine. (Her name is Ophelia, the best cat name ever! My little Ophie! Just kidding all cat names are cool, as well as the cat.) Two cats are my mom's. One is my boyfriend's. (His ex-girlfriend's, really. But, I love that kitty.) There are Two seperate households. Whenever I go to the bathroom, they bust in, so enthused: Meowing, rubbing, what have you. What is this about? I'm so curious. Someone has to know!

They want to be where you are and get all up in your business! They want to see what you're doing and spend time with you. I haven't been able to go to the potty in peace for the past 12 years!

You are far from alone. I would hazard to guess that almost all of us have feline company while in the porcelain room.

That's funny.

If I close my bathroom door, Dexter starts meowing and scratching on it.
scratch, scratch, scratch, meow, meow, meow, ...not very relaxing.

When I go in and sit to do my business, Maxwell comes quickly slinking in, around the corner and CRACK! slams his skull on the wall under the TP holder in a massive headbutt. Does it every time.

Then he has to watch the water go down when I flush before he takes off to do other alpha cat kinds of things around the house.

They are all bathroom kitties, but Quincy more so and Autumn not so much since she fell in a tub of water one day, now she likes to sit in the doorway so you can't close the door.

But Quincy can just be a pain about it, the others will sit and meow at the door, but Quincy isn't that patient. He is banned from the washrooms right now though as he has learned how to flush which greatly amuses him

~flush~ watch water, ~flush~ watch water.... he is not a environmentally friendly kitty

OMG!!! I busted out laughing when I read this. Yeah... there is no privacy anymore when engaging in bathroom functions. I also have the "curious about flushing" cats in Jake. He likes to jump up on the toilet seat and watch. He fell in once (or twice) but that didn't deter him!

I keep all toilet lids down in my place.

Both of mine like to come visit, and I haven't been able to shut a bathroom door in four years without a leg appearing under it, and a lot of mewing happening.

Question - anyone else have a cat that simply must sit on your lap while you're, ah, reading in the lavatory?

Maggie loves to play with the ties on my scrub pants when I'm sitting on the toilet. Lola comes tearing through the house on a dead run to watch the water swirl when it flushes. Cleo really couldn't care less......unless, of course, the door is closed. Then she paws, scratches and rams the door, crying continuously until it is opened!

OMG this is priceless!!!!!! I have never had a cat that respected a closed door!! It means nothing to them except a challenge!!! Little Man Tate used to be so bold, when I was "on the throne", he would jump in my lap and curl up like it was nap time!! I don't think so!! That was never part of the deal, but I loved
him anyway

My wires, especially Ziggy come RUNNING (esp in the middle of the night) when I go to the toilet. They like to climb on my lap and immediately lie down on my thighs and purr the loudest purr.

I think Ziggy's greatest fantasy would be for me to be suddenly stricken with MAJOR CONSTIPATION. Then he and I could sit together for hours---purring and pooing! LOL

I grew up in a home with 3 mostly indoor dogs, a doberman, a boston terrier, and a doberman/lab mix. I NEVER went to the bathroom unattended. The doberman liked to drink out of the toilet, so we adopted the toilet lid down principle as a rule in our home. When I went away to college was the first time I ever had potty time entirely to myself.

When I got my first cat, Callie, she would stick her paws under the door and try to open it. I was afraid she'd hurt herself and the door, so I just started leaving the door open. It was just me and her anyway. Then the DH came along and I had to warn him that he'd likely get a visitor if he didn't shut the door. That was over 10 years ago and now he leaves the door cracked when he goes to the potty just in case someone wants to come in and visit. Otherwise the girls will sit outside the door and cry their heads off.

My cats do the same, though my younger one is more active about trying to get in whenever I'm in there. If I'm taking a bath neither of them bother, they are wary of that. Otherwise, they have a "No closed door" policy in my house (THEY do) and if one's closed they do NOT like it. LOL I just about have to have them in the bathroom with me now

This is the ONLY time EVER that Riley wants to sit on my lap. He'll get all lovey-dovey, purr and rub all over and want lots of petting. Since I get bitten for trying it any other time, of course I let him

Just yesterday I was sitting on my porcelain throne when all of sudden Stinkpot (my loyal companion) realized he wasn't with me, so he came running full blast and jumped right up from floor to lap to shoulder. Usually he's just content to sit on the floor and wait for me. He's also fallen in before, so all lids down in our house, which is a shame, because he also enjoys watching the water swirling around. (I'm just afraid I'll forget to come back and close the lid)

You are so right about closed doors. My linen closet is in the "throne room", and I have to close the door to get to it. Drives the cats crazy! All 4 of them will be outside trying to get in. Once I exit, then Darko goes in and tries to open the linen closet door to see what I was up to
