At the shelter I volunteer at, I've gotten close to a few cats. Bam has a chronic sinus problem and ulcers on his tongue, so he is out. Total lovebug, though....

In the FIV/FeLV room, there is Holly. Very gentle/docile. She loves to sit in your lap! Pretty green eyes! I think, once I move into my RV, I'm going to adopt her. Of course, things might change....

Yep, it was hit/miss with the camera phone. I sat down, she saw me, I patted my lap and she trotted over and jumped up!

Holly is quite the little beauty
. How wonderful that you're considering adopting her should you be able and willing in the future -- taking on special needs kitties is such a rewarding and humbling experience.

I've had just one kitty with FIV (though I've fostered and even was owned by other special needs cats). Her name was Layla and she was a beautiful long-haired brown tabby. We had her while growing up and I knew nothing about FIV then. But, I did know that she was "sick" and could possibly never live a full, long life. However, that most certainly was not the case. Layla lived to be 19 years old and had very few health issues despite having FIV. Unfortunately, she did require some vet care and my parents were unwilling to properly care for them -- thus, I took her and gave her to the sister of one of my closest friends. I told my family that she had run off, but, really, I knew she was safe in the arms (and lap!) of an owner who adored her. My friend's sister loved Layla and took excellent care of her. I wish I could have kept her myself, but at only 10 years old, there's not much I could've done. And, in the end, Layla was in the right home with the right owner. And, the sister who adopted Layla? She now only adopts FIV+ kitties
.

I hope you're able to adopt Holly. She looks like she's already staked her claim on you

Great story, Alison!!

Holly is a sweet girl. I am so glad people who are in the know are willing to adopt FIV kitties.

I wish everyone was so accepting of special needs cats.

God Bless you!!!

Well, I went back to the shelter and she has BLUE eyes with a tinge of green. She is also about 10 years old. No matter, if my living situation goes the way it should, I'll still most likely get her. That is, if no other cat catches me off guard and says, "Take me!"

What a beautiful cat!! I really hope that you are able to adopt her.

Also, even if another cat comes into your life unexpectedly and you end up taking them, would you still be able to adopt Holly as well? I mean, if she lives at a shelter does that mean she gets along well with the other cats there?

I'm going to be living in a Camper Van, so I think 1 will be enough. But, we all know how THAT works!

She's such a beautiful little girl. I hope you'll be able to give her a forever home. Good luck!
