Can cats have seasonal allergies? My meezer mix, Ghost, already has sensitive eyes, but I have noticed the last few days his eyelids seem inflamed/swollen - most noticeable on the pink set of eyelids. The other set is gray. He always has those little brown crumblies in the corners of his eyes, too.... they come and go... but I saw his 3rd eyelids quite a bit today which tells me his eyes are bothering him.

I will call the vet in the morning, but just was wondering....

(I know MY eyes are bothering me quite badly and I do have seasonal issues - as well as .... sigh... CAT allergies!)

I can't speak to whether cats have seasonal allergies, but it makes sense to me that they might.

What I do know is that we're having a doozy of an allergy season right now in Boston with the tree pollen. Must have been all the rain, and then the mild temperatures. Maple is bad right now (sniffle, sniffle) and oak hasn't even started.

I'd say, ask your vet. And pray for rain. (Unless you've got mold allergies, too!)

I'm also allergic to cats. Fifteen years of monthly shots so far. I figure I can't cut down all the trees in New England, so why not have four longhaired cats while I'm at it?

They can be affected by seasonal allergies just like us humans. Callie gets itchy ears when the seasons change and Hannah gets weepy eyes, sneezes, and itchy ears whenever a front blows through and/or the weather changes. Since Hannah has herpes, I watch her like a hawk just to try to fend off any kind of flare up.

Yes!! At the clinic were I work about 80% of the cats we've seen this month have been allergy problems or complications from allergies. All three of mine have been sneezing far more than usual this past month.
