Well i wanted to finally introduce my newest family member. I've had him over a month but since I had to give up the last dog we tried to adopt I didn't want to get over excited, but the bear is here to stay.

His story is as follows - was at a shelter (no history prior to this) and the shelter was closing down, so local rescues picked up the dogs so they didn't have to be put down. Bear was picked up by a doberman rescue and was with them for 6 months since people going to them were generally looking for a doberman, our friends heard about him and the foster home said we could have him on trial.

Besides being quite overweight (a problem I can deal with) he is exactly what we needed for our family. He is housetrained, been around cats and dogs, and is already 7 so a very quiet boy. Not sure about the breed... lab x with something. I learned a lot about cat-dog intros afte rhte last dog and took this very slow, over the course of a month really and I still keep them seperated when I'm not home, although I think I have nothing to worry about...

With no further adieu... meet.... the bear.

And here is his before picture.... after to come in a few months...

He has a perfectly clean bill of health from the vet and has been a joy!

What a handsome dog! He has very unique markings.

I'm happy for you; I know it was hard for you to give up your last dog. It looks as if he has settled in very well.

It was so hard

But she is in a better situation for her now.,... and bear is a much smarter choice for us. Older, lab, no abuse history, known history with cats and dogs, yet still somehow unadobtable!!..... better for a first dog I think

What a great-looking dog. He looks like he "needs" a family, and he's found one now.

I wonder...some sort of Australian cattle dog/lab mix, I think?

yeah the poor guy has found his forever home.... I'm very happy.

I had no idea that older "big black dogs" are almost as hard to adopt out as older "black cats" so bizarre!

In anycase he just needs some love... and a diet
We had his thyroid and complete blood panel done and it's all clean, so it's just a lab thing.

We have heard australian shepherd, or catahoula dog mix, but who knows! Def. lab, he looks at food and gets fatter...

I was at the shelter a few months ago. Another volunteer who walks all the dogs came out with a great-looking lab. The dog pulled him over to my pickup and desparately wanted to jump up in the back of it. Wasn't hard to figure out some of his past from that. And that black dog would have looked GREAT in the back of my red pickup!

OMG we can't keep bear out of the truck! He LOVES it, which is good, because it's a 6 hour drive up to our cottage.... which he will obviously love!

When I went to teach him "stay" and "leave it" he already knew them, so he clearly had a family at some point....

First thing that popped into my mind when I saw him was "Aussie dog".

He sounds like a great fit for your family, and I'm so happy you were able to give him a good home.
