Can someone be in love with a computer?

I have some very dear friends who gave me a new computer for Christmas....and, actually birthday this year.

I've never had a new computer! I've always had hand-me-downs. And it's a lovely Compaq laptop. I've had dial-up all this time, paying AOL every month for internet access. Now, I went with DSL, and I can't believe how fast everything is!! And I anticipated a big fight with cancelling AOL, but I think they heard so many complaints from people who wanted to cancel and got attitude, that they make it really easy to just go with free e-mail, which is all I wanted.

I can't get off my computer now!! I'm totally obsessed!!! I can actually watch kitty videos that people post, and pictures come through really quickly. I'm in love!

But Larry seems really jealous. He keeps jumping up on the desk, wondering why the heck I'm spending so much time here and not paying attention to him. Oops here he is again! The little scamp!

Wow! That's really nice. And I'm in love with a Calaphon frying pan, so I guess someone could be in love with a computer.

I can relate! I adore Calphalon!!

I think it has to do with discovering that something you thought was "merely a tool" has turned out to be such an excellent tool that it's almost a toy as well.

Congrats on the new computer!!

Probably a little. But most people are.

I can't say I love mine. I've put too many together, fixed them, and other tweaking to actually love them. Though the challenge there is fun (until something doesn't boot
). So nope, no more than I love my toaster.

Upgrades are always nice, though! I hope it works well for you. Since you're probably on windows 7, make sure you get it nice and secure (as possible) to avoid a lot of possible future headaches.

This thread did remind me of a song called Luv Computer by Feel So Bad - a Japanese hard rock/metal band with a female vocalist. Some of their songs are on youtube, but not this one.

I know exactly how you feel. In December 2008 I went from an old HP Windows 98 machine, with dial, up to an Acer lap top and cable internet. I thought....with faster internet I would spend less time on the computer.

The joke was on me, because, as you've discovered, it's a whole new world out there when you have an updated computer and high speed access!

Congratulations!

Ps..this kind of says it all...

No more computer until you feed us

You're not virus proof on a mac, no more than I am on linux. There are viruses out there and if you're not careful with what you're doing, you can end up installing the thing yourself. If we get hit, its much worse than it typically is on windows as we'd end up with a rootkit - you don't recover from that, you reformat and reinstall. Though getting hacked is more likely to happen.

LOL!

Nanner, you reminded me of that Melanie Doane song "I Cant Take My Eyes Off You".

Its a really nice love song that several TV shows (like Buffy the Vampire Slayer) used as the music in these important love scenes.

Melanie Doane later revealed who she actually wrote the song to: her TV!!

lyrics:

So dear to me
Always keep me company
Who needs to go outside
I will be your silent bride

I cant take my eyes off you
Nothing ever needs to be said
You send your message right into my head
You fill me up when I'm alone
So soothing is your monotone

I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you

So maybe you're not as real as the others
But I choose you over all my past lovers
For they have come and they have gone
But I can always turn you on

I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you

There are all sorts of bells and whistles that I'm finding out about.

I'm trying to be very careful about stuff sneaking in, and there is alot of protection on it.

And those pictures do say it all! That's exactly what Larry's doing. He jumps up on the desk and walks across the keyboard. Like "Ahem.....I'll just casually stroll along here, because you really can't ignore me if I'm walking right in front of your face."

No you're not nutso since I was the same when I got my first and only computer a few years ago. I had always had computers at work but never had my very own PC. I went with DSL immediately too and still have it. Enjoy your new toy and have fun

Ohmigosh! This had me laughing hysterically! It's so perfect!

If I could hug my computer, I would!
Oh, wait......I can!

I've had a very fullfilling ten year love affair with my truck, so I can fully understand.
