We just found out my MIL is in emergency surgery for a perforated colon.

I looked it up, and understand that surgery is successful in "the majority of cases," but we don't know how severe it was. I do know she suffers from colitis.

If you could send a few prayers her way... we're contemplating splitting up for the first time, as we're on the east coast and she's in Chicago - Gary may have to drive there himself.

I'm sending lots of good thoughts her way.

Will Gary be able to drive there? I think maybe he needs some good thoughts and vibes, too, for a pain-free drive.

Well, we don't have much more information because of the privacy laws in IL. We only know the surgery ended and she's in ICU. She does have legal stuff that will let the hospital give Gary updates, but her best friend and lawyer won't get them to the hospital until sometime today - we don't know if she knows about Gary's MIL being in the hospital or not, and it's an hour earlier there. ....so we don't know if Gary needs to go or not.

Thanks for the good thoughts and vibes headed her way!

to MIL and to you and Gary. I have GI problems and have had a tear, so I sort of know the kind of thing she is going through. that the perforation wasn't too bad and she heals quickly.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Sending many prayers and vibes to them both.

Sending major vibes your way!!

My MIL had that surgery about 2 years ago at the age of 78. She recovered very quickly in spite of her age. I hope the same for your MIL.

Sending loads of healing vibes to your MIL
Hopefully, Gary won't have to make the trip.

She's going to be OK. She's on pain meds that are making her VERY groggy, but the nurse was able to confirm what she was trying to tell us once she told us. She had part of her colon removed and she's recovering well and being moved out of intensive care shortly.

Of course, she says she's dying, and she's fighting with them (this is SO her!) about being moved out of ICU - but that means she's well enough to fight LOL. She says she doesn't want Gary to come visit as she wants us to remember her the way she was. Nurse said she's doing really well LOL.

Looks like Gary's not going to drive to Chicago, although she'll probably be in the hospital about a week.
