So I had to bring Tessie to the vet because she has been throwing up a lot more lately. So long story short he wants me to feed her foods with some grains in it and see if that helps. He suggested I try an Indoor formula since she needs to loose a couple pounds and the indoor is fewer calories and will help with her hairballs.

What do you suggest is better, Wellness Indoor or Blue Buffalo Indoor?

I have been feeding her wet food with her dry but I can not afford it anymore. I am going to buy a few cans to have around the house and give her wet a few times a week instead of everyday.

Thanks in advance!

Could you use a mid level dry like nutro or authority with some wet?

To loose wt I would not suggest a high carb multi grain food( sorry IMHO I disagree strongly with your vet) ... I would suggest a kitten food

Yes, I could use both Nutro or Authority, which kind do you suggest? I wanted to try and stick to a Holistic food, but If you feel this may be better, I will give it a try. Vet actually wanted to put her on SD and I said no way, haha.
Kitten food? Isn't this higher in calories then regular adult?

The reading I've done suggests that Wellness is a very good quality cat food but it's much more expensive than Blue Buffalo. I would suggest Natural Balance. It's a very good food and we feed our poodles this food.

Kitten food YES higher in calories but those calories come more from protein and fat( roughly 10% higher than adult)

Read the labels ... Authority has ground corn and Nutro has wheat ... I have seen far more wheat allergies than corn ... Authoritys sensitive systems has no corn but I am unsure the protein and fat...

Natural balance is also good , IMHO I would likely choose Wellness kitten

another option is mix a grain containing with a grain free

IMHO look for something with oats as that can aid in calming the vomitting

I've used Authority before and the cats on it did well (just that it was troublesome to buy it).

Food aside, if you can get Tessie on something that she doesn't vomit up and that supports her needs well enough you may see an energy increase. Get her to playing more to help get her weight down.
Does she usually play well or is she picky with toys?

O, she plays all the time, sometimes I have to tell her to go away because I'm to tired, lol. She loves to run from upstairs all the way down stairs and back up as fast as she can, she is insane, haha.

Sharky - What food contains oats?
Now that I remember, Nutro always made her throw up too (prob 2-3 times a week) I still think it was from to corn.

We have a Costco but I don't have a membership, I have a membership to BJ's Wholesale instead.

Hey there! I use the Nutro Natural Choice Indoor for my Chester Cheetah and he does really well on it. He actually eats the weight management formula because he is a lazy boy.
Anyway, he has been eating Nutro since he was 9 months old and has never had a problem. It is great with hairballs too, Chester is a long haired boy. He sheds less which also helps less ingestion of his hair while cleaning himself. Good luck!

Why thank you sharky for pointing that out. I did read through the thread but I must have missed that one.

The corn in Natural Choice is not ground corn but corn gluten meal, which is very easily digestible and a great usable protein. I have only seen issues with there being an allergy to the corn. I have also found with a lot of cats they were eating to quickly and throwing up the food shortly after. I am not sure if that is occurring with your Tessie but try putting the food on a plate instead of in the bowl which will slow down her eating. Just a thought.

Again, good luck!

I am not a fan of Nutro foods. In my experience, the quality is inconsistent and their customer service is terrible.

I agree with Sharky that a cat is much more likely to have trouble with wheat than with corn.

Eagle Pack "holistics" uses oats for grain, if you are looking for a mid range dry food. And they have a "frequent buyer" program. At least they used to. Buy ten, get the 11th bag free, I think it was.

Canned food is better for her, for weight loss though.

It would be in her best interests to play with her when she wants you to, rather than pushing her away. Running up and down the stairs on her own is great, but she really needs Interactive Game time with you, both for bonding and for exercise, on a daily basis.

Get a laser pen, that can be used when you are too tired to play any other way, but do get down on the floor with her fairly often.

Yes, Corn gluten is easily digested but is also the protein and while in my experience a rare allergy I have 2 under my roof with it.. Proteins are what the allergen causers in food .. corn gluten is 66-76% digestible , much higher than corn as a whole but far lower than rice and by some charts wheat ... Oatmeal and potato are also higher digestibility depending on the study and the chart looked at....

Very Good suggestion...

BJ's has crappy cat food like Meow Mix, Iams and cat chow, nothing I would ever feed Tessie. The only thing I ever buy there pet wise is the litter, it's 14.99 for a 42lb container or Fresh Step.

I was just looking and noticed the Blue Buffalo uses barley, oatmeal and brown rice. This sounds much better then Wellness since they seem to use a lot more rice.

realize white rice is easier to digest than brown ( about 20% difference)... barley is identical in protein to wheat ( not a bad thing but if one is allergic or sensitive )
