Urinary blockage

My son's big male, Six, has been at the vet since Monday with a blockage. Sounds like it is really pretty serious, as they are concerned his bladder is perforated. They will find out today. My son was told that if it is, they can perform surgery, but can't guarantee it will work and he would suffer very much throughout. I am really worried. This is my son's oldest and most treasured cat. He has already said he will have him put to sleep rather than let him suffer. Prayers please.

That the vet will be able to unblock the cat

Praying for Six. I guess you mean Urinary Tract Blockage not Uterine blockage, maybe a mod could correct the title.

As you probably already know a Urinary tract blockage is fatal in a male, so good job getting him to the vet in time to you or your son, whoever it was who got him there.

here is some info for you on this problem, and the surgery to correct it:

Please keep us updated on Six

Yes, that is what I meant, just couldn't quite remember the name. My first cat had it and I believe he had surgery and then had to be on special food for the rest of his life. He lived to be almost 19 though. Thank you for the information site. I have forwarded this on to my son.

I hope Six does well. I just had one with a partial block - luckily cathing him to get urine was enough to unblock him.

He's on a special diet for the rest of his life, too.

My friends cat had that surgery and it helped alot.
I hope he will be ok.
My sisters cat Midnight had bladder surgery also and has to be on C/D for life but there have been no problems since then.

Do you have an update for us? I'm sending many, many vibes toward Six and also toward your son as he faces this difficult decision.

Sweetie has never been blocked, but he has had crystals several times previous to when I adopted him. He hasn't had any more problems for about 1/12 years but like some others here, has to stay on a special diet for the rest of his life.
