Rules for Forums?

Where can I read the rules for forums? What can be discussed and what can't, and how we must phrase things? I just want to be sure I don't get infractions because I've discussed a hot topic unknowingly.

The Forum Rules are located in the New Cats on the Block forum. Generally, we ask that you treat everyone with respect.

The site highly recommends spaying and neutering. And we are against declawing. We believe that online advice cannot take the place of a trained vet's advice.

Thank you!

Because "we are against XX" does that mean I should not mention that I may be FOR XX?

It's just really hard to discern an opinion from someone being MEAN about something, and so, I don't know what I'm allowed to talk about and what I'm not. I may be FOR something that the site is normally AGAINST, for example (not saying I AM or whatever, just an example). Does that mean I shouldn't voice that opinion to avoid conflict and misunderstanding?

Certain issues are just SO taboo. I know in other forums, things like breast feeding or religion or politics are almost always getting argued over, and someone's going to get hurt.

Just make sure you post in the appropriate forum. For example, there is a forum for political or religious discussions (IMO:In My Opinion). The Cat Lounge is for topics unrelated to cats, so this is where you can talk about other things going on in your life, e.g. weddings, kids, new house, dancing lessons, and yes, breast feeding.

Read through some of the threads to see what type of things are being written. If you disagree with someone it's okay to say so, just don't flame the person who has a different opinion. Be sure you're stating that it is your opinion and not fact unless you can back up the facts.

Foul language is never appropriate, especially since we have some young readers here. Okay, I'm not so young, but I prefer not to be exposed to that kind of language, either.

Oh, and welcome to TCS.

Realize that some of these topics like being against declawing are the underlying principles of the site. As such, you may find a very strong reaction to your opinion, one that is more vehement than what you are ready for. If you find a post objectionable, you can report it to the moderators with the Report Post. But realize, a strongly worded post may stay as long as it is not insulting and rude.
