I hope he has fun at his inevitable court martial...bye bye nutcase!

I don't get the birther-ites at all. Have they fallen prey to Joseph Goebbels philosophy of "if you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it"?

Yup, a court marshall for desertion is in order.

IMO if he feels that strongly about things, then resign from service instead.

As an officer, he can resign...but the military doesn't have to accept his resignation.

In my book, he's the sort who joined the Army for the pay and benefits and college financing, then refused to deploy to Iraq when they were ordered to do so.

The military members are the ultimate "civil servant." They work for the organization, for the ideal, not for any one person. This is how the U.S. has managed to have a strong military without the danger of a military coup.

And, of course, this is why officers are prohibited from political work in uniform and are strongly discouraged from discussing politics on the job.

Are they still fighting about this in the courts or have the suits all been dismissed? I was wondering why this guy is doing this too, aside from the fact he doesn't want to be deployed. Possibly he wants to be court martialed. Maybe he thinks it will give him some opportunity to try and prove his case. Weirder things have happened.

Wow, that is crazy the way he is handling it.

I will say the same thing about this guy as I said about the Reservist who gave the same argument. CooCoo! CooCoo!

Funny how they are willing to serve under this President just fine until their butts are on the line. I'm certainly not saying that any Medal of Honor winner is anything less than the epitome of courageous, but if he's not willing to serve his COUNTRY by going into a war zone again he shouldn't still be in the military. I'm pretty darn sure he's put in enough time to have retired with full benefits by now. He obviously has the skills to still serve his fellow soldiers, whether or not he's actively in the military.

A soldier's or Marine's loyalty and duty is to the United States of America. They do not swear to obey a single man or office, but to serve their country.

Of course, they do swear to uphold the Constitution. This man may think this is part of that oath, but he (and the Reservist) would have had much more credence of holding that up as their reason to go AWOL and disobey orders if they had done it right after Obama had been sworn into office rather than just when they are ordered to deploy.

Right? He didn't seem to have any trouble collecting his paychecks, did he.

Whoa! You freaked me out for a minute. I thought to myself, "NO WAY would a Medal of Honor winner refuse to be deployed for ANY reason, let alone that lame reason."

You misread Heidi, the article is written badly though, I had to reread it. The Medal Of Honor recipient is the birther's commander, not the birther himself.

Well thank goodness I misread that! Thank you for clarifying that, Cindy! I couldn't imagine a Medal of Honor winner not doing everything in their power to get the job done. After all, that's what the Medal is awarded for. But at the same time, I also couldn't imagine someone close to or over 60 being deployed.

OK, well that pretty well takes away any "out" this guy had in my mind. Yup...he just doesn't want to deploy and found a convenient reason to justify disobeying orders.

It's interesting that Bill O'Reilly says the guy is a loon and a slacker. Bill was among the first to say the "birthers" were crazy and proved to his own satisfaction that they are wrong.

An officer has a duty not to obey illegal commands, but there is nothing in this that he has even a ghost of a leg to stand on.
