Hello - my name is Linni and I originally posted this on the 'New Cats' section, but it was recommended that I post it here. My husband and I adopted Captain from the SPCA. He's one and a half year old pure black shorthair, and very, very lovable. He has captured our hearts. He is not happy unless he is right beside us.

My husband is retired and I work from home, so we're around all day for him.

Part of the reason that we didn't own a cat for so long was that we're sailors and basically move aboard our 34' sailboat each summer. (It's essentially our summer cottage.) But after having met many sailors with cats aboard, we decided that 'Captain' (Cappy for short) will come along with us this year.

Is there anyone else on this forum who takes a cat aboard a boat? I'd love to compare notes!

Thanks!

Lin

I can't remember who it was but I think someone here has. I don't know if she has posted ina while though. I remember seeing photos of her cat hanging out on the boat when they docked somewhere. I think she may have been over in England but I can't be sure. I'm not alot of help I know.

Sounds like you and your kitty will have some grand adventures!

I remember her too, but can't remember her name! I thought she was Canadian?

That sounds like an awesome lifestyle! Please show us some pictures of Cappy when he gets settled on board.

It was a couple and they originally posted because one cat got loose and they were trying to catch it before winter.

Thanks so much for sharing the pics of the cat on the boat!

It looks like the cat is harness trained - which is what we're doing. 'Cappy' was a shelter cat, and I know that in a previous life he was probably allowed to run freely. Apparently Animal Control picked him up abandoned way out in the country. He sits at the door and meows like he knows exactly where he wants to go.

Unfortunately, we're training him that if he wants out, we are with him and he wears a harness and leash. (We also live in an urban area.) But he is getting used to it. He will wear it all the time on the boat.

When I figure out how to do pictures, I'll send some.

That makes me happy to read! I hope he gets his sea legs in no time.
Cappy sounds like a great guy. I have an all black DSH too, and I can't wait to see Cappy's picture!

Sorry I don't have any advice for you about cats on boats, but it sounds like you've got things under control.

We have two girls that we take boating every year with us, we too live aboard most of the summer, our girls did not take too kindly to a harness so we bought them each a stroller and when we dock we take them for a walk, they love it, we also fully screened the back of the boat so that the girls can watch the ducks or whatever their little hearts desire, thats there favorite place to be, they also like to be on the dash or next to me on the seat, just make sure you take plenty of treats along LOL I would post pics but I dont know how, I have tons of them, if I can be of any help let me know

This is their Classic Nightime "Guard" Position. The one on the left is no longer with us though.

Standing "Guard" alone

Looking for Mischief

A joint effort

What a great spot for a nap

Did someone out here want to see me about something?

And here's a few of the new addition......

I'll let you see it when I'm done Printing it

Hang on a minute...I'm "Proof Reading" it

It sure is comforatable here

This sure is a good place to look down at everything from.

Wonderful pictures of your sweetie pies...
they seem to enjoy being on your boat and lurking on their cat tree too.

Thank you for sharing them with us.
