Are the bubbles the kittens?

Hi, I'm new here but I took in a pregnant cat not knowing she was pregnant. I am now just having to scramble around and learn what I need to know about how to take care of her and her kittens when they come. She has a vet appointment tomorrow to make sure she's healthy and has no worms from being left outside.

My biggest concern right now is that I can hear and feel bubbles under the skin of her stomach. I am assuming that these are from the kittens moving? At this point I'm guessing how far along she is. She has a nice size belly and I can feel kittens about the size of a golf ball but there are constant bubbles. Her stools are normal, she's eating okay (she ate better when she first got here) and sleeping all day long. I'm thinking she's around 5 weeks. What do you think?

If you can feel the kittens moving she's probably at least 7 weeks. I'm not sure what you mean by "bubbles". When the kittens move sometimes you just feel the whole lump move, but you can also sometimes feel their little feet pushing against you.

You're definatly farther than 5 weeks!
At least seven, probably closer to eight, since you feel them moving. I'd expect them in the next week!
Cats are very good at parenting, so you don't need to worry about too much...you may want to confine her to one room with a nice box with old blankets/rags for her to have them in, and if you haven't already, you can start feeding her kitten food so she gets the extra nutrients.
Good luck with her! Keep us updated on how she does!

This feels like a small bubble popping. I've been pregnant 5 times and in the early stages of pregnancy it does feel like bubbles and not actual limbs. I can feel the actual kitten because it's a round hard mass in the horn of her uterus. The bubbles feel small like soda bubbles. I hope that makes sense. She has an appointment with the vet tomorrow so I hope we can get some answers.

Just wanted to post an update here. Things are the same, the vet has said to keep her home and not to stress her at this point. He thinks that it will be soon. I think so too based on her behaviors. She's been coming out and looking around the house more and now has gone under my bed and won't come out for me at all. Normally she will if I talk to her and ask her to come out. I took her temp this morning and it was 101.6 so no kittens within that 24 hour period of time but we shall see how things go.

About how long after you initally see milk from the nipples before labor? I've got to search some of the threads here because I think it's mentioned. I didn't see milk yesterday but definitely see it today and can feel that area of her belly filling up, I guess you could say.

OH yeah! I'm very excited. At night she comes out from under my bed and will stay by me so I'm assuming she will want me there when she's birthing because she feels comfortable being with me.

No but the bubbles have graduated to full on bumps so I think I have misjudged her. I think she will be having them within a week or so. Her belly is tight and her nipples are growing. Since I had no idea when she got pregnant and no idea about cat pregnancy I was in this all blind. I'm getting the feel for things now and have calmed down and relaxed. I have watched her strange behaviors at night. She will stare at me and then pace and act like she's searching for something. Then she will eat and relax and sleep. It's very interesting watching this all unfold.

Hmmm...I assume that you don't know if she's had a litter before...
If she has, it may take a few days from when she got milk, but if not, it is very rarely longer than 24-48 hours...

No idea but she looks really young. The woman I got her from said close to one year but gave me no papers or anything. She just wanted rid of her and her "shedding". She hasn't shed that much at all here after I bathed her and brushed out all the dead hair that could have made another cat out of her.

I felt milk under the nipples if that makes sense. It felt like a pocket that was beginning to fill. I was able to see it by pressing on it (tiny white dot appeared) but her temp was normal yesterday and I didn't bother trying to take it today since she caught on to the sound of the beep on the thermometer and would take off.

It sounds like she's having a much better life with you than someone who can't even stand a little fur...

Well she really doesn't shed much as long as she's not afraid and brushed daily. When we were at the vet's she was shedding like crazy so that tells me something. The lady admited that her 2 year old son would pull her tail or kick at her and she would still try to be loving towards him. I just cannot believe that someone would allow their child to hurt an animal and do nothing to that child. I have an almost 3 year old daughter and asked her if she'd ever kick or hit Carly and she said "no I would not kick her I would pet her." I have brought my children up to respect and care for animals and poor Carly has finally found a home that repects her.

That's awful. I have a "nervous shedder" too, which is usually limited to vet visits. I'm glad you saved her from that situation. Good luck with the birthing/kittens!
