Only if you REALLY want it!!!!

BTW: I just want to take a moment to thank each and every US tax payer for this gift. My husband and I both work full time and we pay taxes too, but I figured if we receive this money, it'll be a little from each tax payer.

I'm posting this in IMO because I know that anything to do with ANY government entity tends to cause disagreement.
Anyway...last July, DH and I bought our first home. We filed an amended tax return in Oct. 2009 in order to try and receive the tax credit "early." (You'll see why early is in quotations).
November and December go by, without any news. We knew it could take 12 weeks or more for the claim to be reviewed and approved or denied. So we waited until January to call. We were told then that we should have received paperwork in the mail, and that it should be filled out and turned back in as soon as possible. One week later the paperwork arrived (did we REALLY have to ask for it?), and then we filled it out and sent it back in within 5 days.
A month goes by (February at this point) and we get a nasty-gram telling us that since we didn't respond to the request for more information, they were going to deny our amended return. DH calls again, explains what happened and we were told, "Oh, here it is! Just disregard that letter." (GRRRR...we were told that it was found on someone's desk nearly three weeks after we sent it, and two days after the postmark on the nasty-gram.)
We get a new letter in February telling us we'll hear back by March 15. March 15 comes by, and we've got another letter telling us that we'll hear by April 14. Today we get a letter and FINALLY! We're approved! But....it'll be 6-8 weeks before we get the money. (GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
So, Oct., Nov., Dec., Jan., Feb., March, April, and possibly May and June = 6-9 months.
12-16 weeks my patootie!!!!

Sorry to hear it was such a pain in the bureaucracy to get the cash that was promised to you.
