Does anybody have an Ott Light? Do you like it? Would you recommend one?

I'm looking at a light for my office at work. We have ugly industrial-type hanging lights in our building, but neither I, nor my co-workers, like them. They're very harsh and give all three of us headaches and eye problems, mostly because nobody thought to talk to us about where to place the lights. As a result, they were installed directly in front of us so that we can look into them all day long and directly behind us, so they create glare on our monitors all day long. As for trying to get a glare screen for the monitors....well, good luck with that. The three of us have agreed just not to use the lights and we've brought in our own lighting.

I have a lot of plants in my office and need more light for the plants. My old floor light died and needs to be replaced. It has to be a floor light because there are plants on the stands and all over my desk. I'm looking at the Ott Lights. Here's the link to the light I've thinking about......

Any advice or review would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't have an Ott Lamp, but I DO have a couple of Spectrum Lights, which work on the same principal as the Ott Lamps and are a whole lot cheaper. I think I paid $39.99 for mine and they have been working for a couple of years now without needing the bulb changed. Love them!! (now that I think about it, I DID have an OTT that I found at a garage sale, loved it until it started having problems, so replaced it with another of the Spectrum Lamps)

If you happen to have a Big Lots in your area, they usually have the Spectrum Lamps, sometimes they have the floor lamp on sale for $29.99. Don't know if they sell a desk lamp or not. I'm sorry, I am having a brain fart and cannot recall the internet site where I bought my first lamp, and just googled Spectrum Lighting and came up with about 100,000 things. But the one I got is the one advertised sometimes in the Parade magazine in the Sunday paper. Anyway, the less expensive ones work just as well (I think). They are very bright...I can read without my reading glasses! I will say, though, that I do not have them near my PC, so don't know how they would be around that type of surface. Don't they say not to expose your monitor to sunlight? That might be an issue.

There's no place like home
I looked into Ott lights to use in my sewing room. I chose not to buy one when I heard a lot of owners complaining about their general reliability, short lived light bulbs (which are very pricey), and poor (to none) response from the company to resolve customer issues.

I often just google (product) reviews when I want to hear what people think about something that I want to buy. I think that's where I found the Ott light reviews.

I have an Ott light from Jo-Ann Fabrics. I bought about 18 month ago. I like it because I can bend closer to my work (sewing) area. But the bulb did fall out and break. It was $30-$40 for a new bulb. I questioned an employee at Jo-Ann's who said the bulbs falling out was a commom complaint. I put a couple of large rubber bands around the bulb and shade and haven't had a problem.
