Tuner

my cat,Tuner (13)had been eating less and less, and didn't eat for 2 days so I took him in thursday,4/8/10 for an exam.Blood work was normal. An abdominal x-ray should a large (grapefruit size) tumor had pushed his intestines off to the side.I was told my options were exploratory surgery ,or do an ultrasound on tuesday. Not wanting to wait and have him suffer over the weekend, and just wanting to get that thing out of him,I brought him in for surgery on friday. The Dr. called during surgery to say it was a liver tumor, and she could remove a lobe and anything else she saw that was bad (she said it was a nasty looking tumor) - I said yes, remove it.She called back and said it went well.2 hours later she called and said that as Tuner was waking up,he suddenly collapsed and they couldn't revive him -he died.I'm just lost, now, and can't help feeling if I would have waited to do surgery,he would still be here.If I had brought him in earlier or waited for surgery,do you think this would have happened? I think I may have killed him.
I feel so bad,I can't believe he's gone. The thought that I did the wrong thing is killing me.I miss him so much I don't know what to do - I'm walking around the house, lost, and crying.

Oh sweetie, I am so sorry!

You were acting on your vets suggestions, please try not to be so hard on yourself. It sounds like a fluke thing that took Tuners life. It could have happened even if you waited. No one knows. You can make yourself crazy wondering "why".

You are in good company here....we all go through this heartbreaking thing. Please know you did what you thought was the right thing...and it probably was.

I will say a prayer for you and Tuner tonight. I am sure Tuner is at the RB with our cats here on this site.

RIP sweet Tuner the kitty.

Thanks for the kind words. It just happened so fast-we were playing right before I took him in!
He didn't seem to be in any pain, but he had lost 2 pounds ( he was a BIG cat) over the past year that I should have noticed and put it all together.

Tuner,my bud...

Oh.. I am so sorry to hear about your little Tuner

As farleyv said, you were acting on what your vet advised you to do. You had no way of knowing, you shouldn't beat yourself up with the "I should have..." scenarios.

It was a big shock, a big one... So it will take you time to actually take everything in. I actually just lost my cat to an almost identical situation as your's; cancer, it came as a surprise, and she passed on the operation table.

So speaking from experience, it will take time to come to terms with this. Try your best to focus on and think about are all the good times, I mean.. your baby lived to 13! That's a long life full of love and lots of fun

Aw, Tuner was such a handsome boy.

Wishing you the best, your kitty lived a long life that was full of love

Do not blame yourself.
I would have opted for surgery also.
So sorry you lost him.
He was very pretty.

What a beautiful boy

Dont let what ifs take away all those wonderful years and memories you have with your Tuner.

So many things can go wrong and there is no way in the world that you could ever predict it.

You were only making decisions to make him better.

Hugs to you

Rest in Peace Tuner you will always be loved

I'm so sorry for your loss of your Beloved Tuner. You did what you thought was best for him, and that was to ease his suffering as soon as you could. No one could do more.

It's a terrible thing to lose a loved one so suddenly. I know it doesn't help, but I will say it anyway, Tuner is free of suffering and pain now, and knows how much you love him, and why you chose the way you did.

Tuner is in good company while he waits for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

He certainly was a handsome boy. I hope you come to a place soon where you can look back with a smile, and not a tear.

I am so sorry for your loss of Tuner. He was a beautiful cat. I pray your memories will bring you peace and comfort in the days ahead. His death was not your fault. At the time, you made the decision based on your vet's recommendation for the best interest of your cat. We here on this board have all been through things like this and we are here for you. Rest in peace sweet Tuner. You are loved and missed.

I am deeply sorry for your loss.
You did everything humanly possible for your beautiful boy.
He would tell you that himself if he could.

Tuner will always be with you. That bond of love can never be broken.
